Spain is a country in South-Western Europe, bordered to the west by Portugal and to the north by France.
In 1985, a Sontaran-Androgum group landed in Seville, taking over a local villa. One of the Androgum, along with an infected Second Doctor, would head into town to try one of the local restaurants. (DW: The Two Doctors)

After plans to shoot scenes in America fell through, The Two Doctors was filmed in Spain, one of the few serials of the original series to be filmed outside the United Kingdom, and the last before the original series ended in 1989. In the mid-1990s, Doctor Who was the next adventure filmed outside the UK, when it was produced in Canada.

Spain was a leader in global exploration and expansionism, beginning in the 15th century. The most famous early Spanish voyage was Christopher Columbus's successful journey across the Atlantic Ocean to the islands of North America. Numerous colonies were established on both North and South America, the Pacific Ocean, and in Asia, with Spanish warrior/explorers, called Conquistadors, putting down the indigenous peoples and cultures, including the Aztecs and other Native American tribes.
The early Spanish Empire also attempted to use their political power to enforce Catholic Christian teachings and belief, through an ecclesiastical council called the Spanish Inquisition. In 1680, the tribes of what later became New Mexico rose up against their Spanish rulers, in what was called the Pueblo Revolt. The Spanish reconquered the Pueblos several years later; among the troops participating in this brutal reprisal was Javier Maribona-Picard, an ancestor of Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard. In the 20th century, Spain was a founding member of the European Space Agency. (ENT episode: "First Flight")

Spain is a country in southern Europe, which borders France, Portugal, Andorra, Gibraltar, and Morocco. Castilian Spanish is the official language, with three co-official langauges in other portions of the country, notably Catalan in the Catalania region. The country is famous for its many dance styles, bullfighting, and its key historical role in the colonization and exploration of North and South America (sponsoring Christopher Columbus and colonizing Mexico, amongst other deeds).

The Plaza de España in Seville, Spain was filmed on September 13, 2000 for an AOTC sequence where Anakin and Padmé arrive on Naboo. A long discussion was featured in the deleted scenes section of the DVD.
