The first time this cave is accessed is when Terra, Locke, and Edgar are traveling from Figaro Castle to the Returner Hideout. They simply pass through the cave, and nothing happens to them.

Later, Locke and Celes pass through the cave when heading from South Figaro to Narshe. This time, they must fight an Imperial machine: the Tunnel Armor.

Celes and Sabin pass through here as they are following Edgar (who is referring to himself as "Gerad") to Figaro Castle, which is now not reachable directly by the cave. With help from Siegfried, Celes and Sabin are able to find a secret passage to the castle. Siegfried will not appear in Figaro Cave though until you talk to "Gerad" in South Figaro town. You must jump on turtles to pass through the water in the cave. When you run into Siegfried again after he takes the treasures, you must follow him to a secret tunnel into Figaro Castle. The secret tunnel is in the lower left area of the room.
