The Republic of South Africa (also known by other official names) is the country at the southern tip of Africa. It borders the Atlantic and Indian oceans and Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Lesotho, an independent enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, and, due to its having the largest economy in Africa, is widely regarded as the most socially, economically and infrastructurally developed country on the continent.
In 1938, a smuggler named Harold Foames manipulated members of a Zulu tribe under Chief Gonula to aid him in robbing nearby diamond mines. Mystery Man John Zatara trailed Foames' activities to South Africa and was himself nearly implicated in the theft of the diamonds. Zatara discovered that Foames was partnered with one of his old adversaries, the Tigress. The Tigress and Foames attempted to escape South Africa with their bounty, but Zatara used his magic powers to force their plane to land and recover the diamonds. [1]
Between 1948 and 1994, South Africa was locked in the grip of a system of legalized racial segregation enforced by the National Party South African government. The Teen Titans known as Starfire once made a journey to South Africa and became involved in the Apartheid political atmosphere when she was framed for the murder of a peace activist named Father Mandutu. South Africa is a country in the southern region of the African continent.
Sesame Workshop developed a Sesame Street co-production for the country, Takalani Sesame. This process was featured in the documentary, The World According to Sesame Street. The series made international headlines in 2002 when the show introduced Kami, an HIV-positive Muppet character. Other South African Muppets include Moshe, Zikwe, Kupukeji and Zuzu.
On Sesame Street, Global Grover made a visit to the country and learned how to make toy cars out of scrap wire.
