Silver is a metal which, in Human mythology, could be used to kill a werewolf, particularly in the form of bullets. Silver bullets were also utilised by the Brigadier to defeat the Destroyer. (DW: Battlefield)
Silver was a material that had long been valued as a precious metal, used to make jewellery, high-value tableware, and currency coins.
Prior to United Federation of Planets contact, gold and silver had no meaning on Capella IV. Starfleet trade ships introduced these materials as currency prior to 2267. (TOS novelization: Friday's Child)

| “Silver is bright, pure and much coveted by discerning jewelers. Contrary to the myth spread round by the unscrupulous Miners' Association, it has no particular effect on vampires. Unless they're miserly vampires... Or artistic vampires... Do vampires make jewelry? It doesn't... say... here... Anyway, if it's a really nasty vampire who's only out for blood, who has a good job... damn. Do vampires work... Look, just sell the bloody thing or something.” | ||||||||||
