The Siege of Burmecia in Final Fantasy IX was a part of Queen Brahne Raza Alexandros XVI's plan of conquering the entire Mist Continent. Brahne suddenly broke her alliance with the Realm of Burmecia and took the city by surprise, sending her newly-acquired army of Black Mages in to slaughter Burmecian soldiers and citizens alike. The Burmecian Army was unable to withstand the onslaught and the battle ended quickly. Most of the survivors fled to the neighbor realm of Cleyra.
With the subsequent fall of Cleyra, the remaining Burmecians scattered all over Gaia; Zidane meets several of them during the later events of Final Fantasy IX. It is unknown if the city ever recovered from the attack after Kuja was defeated and peace was restored to the world.
