Baseball is a ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal of baseball is to score points by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four cushions called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond. Players on one team (the offensive team) take turns hitting while the other team (the defensive team) tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways. A player on the offensive team can stop at any of the bases and hope to score on a teammate's hit. The teams switch between offensive and defensive whenever the offensive team gets three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning; nine innings make up a game. The team with the most scores at the end of the game wins.

History of Baseball

This sport is played in Vault 101 in the 23rd century.

On July 13, 2268, there is a notice in Vault 101's Cafeteria announcing a vacancy in one of the baseball teams. The vacancy is for the team position of shortstop. A shortstop is a position on the defensive team between the second and third bases. A baseball game is scheduled for the upcoming Saturday in the Atrium.

President John Henry Eden speaks of reviving this sport on Enclave Radio in Fallout 3.
