The Serpent is an enemy from Final Fantasy VII. It is only found in the Sunken Gelinka and in the Battle Arena as a random final battle or battle four of the Special Battles.

All of its attacks (except Dragon Dance) are Water-elemental while Viper Breath is Ice-elemental.

Huge Tidal Wave and Dragon Dance are physical while Viper Breath and Aqualung are magical.

He starts out only using Viper Breath to one character every turn.

While his HP is 4/5 below the parties' average HP level (excluding dead party members), he will perform Aqualung every turn.

Every other turn while his HP is 2/5 below the parties' average HP level he will perform the attack Huge Tidal Wave. This attack is very similar to Aps's Tsunami attack in that it also attacks Serpent and will do "back-attack damage" to the party. He will not attack on turns in between this.

Every third turn that he is below 1/5 the parties' average HP level (excluding dead party members) he will perform his only non-elemental attack (and his only attack that does npt cost him MP), Dragon Dance. This attack will hit all characters with the same power as Huge Tidal Wave, but is not Water-elemental and will not cause "back-attack damage". He will not attack on turns in between this.
