Sandra Butler was Elsie Tanner's niece, and was briefly a resident of Coronation Street in late 1969, early 1970.

Biography

Sandra arrived in Weatherfield with her brother Bernard, both hoping that by staying with their Aunt Elsie they would be able to cheer her up and distract her from the fact that both her children had now grown up and moved away from her. Sandra wanted a job at Alan Howard's new hair salon and Alan wasn't going to take her on because of her inexperience, but when he offered Elsie the position of manageress she accepted on condition that Sandra and Bernard were both given jobs there.

In late 1969, Sandra fell for Ray Langton, and after they had dated for a while she proposed marriage to him. Ray accepted the proposal but suggested that they hold off the wedding until he was entirely recovered from the accident that had recently paralysed him from the waist down. She was upset when Ray employed an old flame of his, Audrey Fleming as his secretary.

Audrey clearly had feelings for Ray and was deeply jealous of Sandra despite being married to Dickie Fleming. Audrey told Sandra that Ray was only with her because he was in a wheelchair. After a heated argument Sandra and Audrey made up.

Ray fully recovered the use of his legs and set a wedding date of 23rd May 1970, but the wedding was cancelled when jilted husband Dickie told Sandra that Ray had been seen kissing Audrey. Sandra finished with Ray and left the street, heading for London with Jud Johnson.
