Edmonton Oilers (1994-2007)

After playing only 3 games in the 94-95 Season, he scored his first Career goal the next season on November 24th. He is well known for breaking two of Wayne Gretzky's Oilers Records: Scoring over 20 goals in only his second full season, as well as the fastest three goals (2:01). In the 2002 Winter Olympics, he was on the gold winning team. Then he led the Oilers to the Stanly Cup Finals in the 05-06, before they lost in game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes. He had 7 goals and 9 assists in those playoffs.

New York Islanders (2007)

Last minute attempts to avoid being traded from the Oilers failed, and on Febuary 27, 2007, he was traded to the New York Islanders. In exchange, the Oilers got Robert Nilson, Ryan O'Marra, and the islanders 1st round pick. He played a total of 17 Regular-Season games, racking up 5 goals, 10 assists, and 14 PIM. His effort helped them edge both the Sharks and Hurricanes for the 8th place spot. He then got 1 goal, 3 assists, and 4 PIM before they were eliminated in 5 by the top-seeded Buffalo Sabers.

Colorado Avalanche (2007- )

The Following summer, he sighed a 5-year, 32.1 Million Dollar deal with the Colorado Avalanche. He recorded 14 goals and 23 assists in 55 games in the 07-08 season. He then scored 2 goals and three assists in the Playoffs, as they knocked off the Wild in 6, but then got swept by the to-be Stanley Cup Champions Detroit Red Wings.

Personal

Older brother Kevin Smyth played 58 games in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers.
