Detailed image of the Rune scimitar

The Rune scimitar is a scimitar stronger than the adamant scimitar. It is the most popular non-members weapon in RuneScape. Like all rune weapons, it requires 40 Attack to wield. The scimitar's main attack style is the Slash attack style. It is also the second strongest scimitar available to free players, behind the Corrupt dragon scimitar. Players can make a rune scimitar with a Smithing level of 90 using 2 Rune bars, giving the player 150 Smithing experience. Due to its high damage per second ratio, it is often considered the best training weapon available to free players.

The street price of the rune scimitar is 36,700 coins. After the introduction of the Grand Exchange, it was at about 16,000 coins. However, the price almost doubled after the release of PvP worlds where they are commonly used by free players. Free players are able to obtain the rune scimitar as a semi-rare drop from Cockroach soldiers in the Stronghold of Player Safety. For members, the rune scimitar can be obtained as a fairly common drop by a variety of monsters, such as Zamorak warriors and Fire giants.

Despite its poularity, the rune scimitar is weaker than the rune longsword. Due to its bonuses, the rune longsword provides much more efficient attacks. For example, the stab bonus of the rune longsword is much higher than the rune scimitar's, as well as its slash attack. But it should be noted that the rune scimitar can hit a bit more damage per second because of its speed in most situations. The exception for this is if the user has significantly higher Attack than Strength level.

Trivia

  • On 10 August 2009, an update made the blade of the Rune Scimitar enlarged, as many players complained it was too small.
  • On 28 July 2009, the Animation Pack 1 update changed the appearance and attack animations of the Rune Scimitar to what it currently is today in order to make combat look more realistic, as well as the Godswords, the Dragon Scimitar, the Rune and Dragon Longsword and the Abyssal Whip. The old inventory icon of the Rune Scimitar was File:Rune scimitar.PNG
  • On 23 July 2009, five days before the scheduled update, the Rune scimitar image in the Grand Exchange Database was replaced by the new model. Players found the image and posted about it in the RuneScape Forums, making it widely known before Jagex removed the image a few hours later. Five days later the image was once again put up along with the official release.
  • The Rune Scimitar is widely used in free-to-play training.
  • Almost every Free-to-play player who has reached level 40 Attack owns this weapon.
