Contents

Publisher's summary

Dark Horse is pleased to announce its 2006 Free Comic Book Day offering will be in the form of a special split issue featuring original Star Wars and Conan material. Each story is ten pages long and the content for both is appropriate for all ages.

Our Star Wars tale "Routine Valor" is set during the Clone Wars and features Commander Cody and his troops in an indefensible position facing an unassailable enemy. Star Wars: Routine Valor features story by Randy Stradley with art by Doug Wheatley.

In the Conan story "The Spear", a sorcerer receives a vision about a tremendous force washing over the world, and decides it's a prophecy ordering him to revive his sleeping god - but he should have considered it fair warning about his own run-in with Conan! "The Spear" features story by Tim Truman with art by Paul Lee and Dave Stewart.

Free Comic Book Day is Saturday May 6, 2006.

Notes on timeline

According to the comic book, it is officially set "sometime during the Clone Wars." However, a far more exact timeframe can be pinpointed. As Obi-Wan is depicted with short hair and the clones are wearing Phase II armor, it is not during the early months of the war. It must be between roughly the time of Star Wars Republic 68: Armor (set around the time Phase II armor was introduced) and Brothers in Arms (from which point Obi-Wan's actions until the end of the war are completely covered).

Most likely the story takes place some time after Obi-Wan becomes a Jedi Master. Phase II armor is introduced in Armor, yet the images accompanying the short story Changing Seasons depict Obi-Wan with his long haircut. Brothers in Arms is noted, on its inside front cover, as continuing immediately on from the end of Star Wars: Obsession. It is likely that the mission shown in Routine Valor is the one which earned Obi-Wan shore leave prior to Obsession.
