Rotta, nicknamed "Pedunkee Mufkin" (Punky Muffin) by his father and "Stinky" by Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker, was a Huttlet around the time of the Clone Wars and the offspring of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, grandson of Zorba Desilijic Tiure, grand-nephew of Ziro, Jiliac, and Pazda, and cousin of Gorga, and Grubba.

Biography

"I love that Huttlet."

Rotta was born in 32 BBY. Unlike most Huttlets, Rotta did not spend the first fifty years of his life inside his parent's brood pouch, as Jabba wanted him to directly experience the galaxy.[2] In 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars while on a pleasure cruise on his father's barge, the ten-year-old Huttlet was kidnapped by Asajj Ventress at the direction of Count Dooku, and in cooperation with Rotta's great-uncle, Ziro. Taken aboard the Trident, he was flown to the B'omarr Monastery on the planet Teth. The kidnapping prompted Jabba to make a deal with the Galactic Republic to rescue his son, in turn for free passage through his shipping routes.[3][4]

While being held prisoner on Teth, he became sick, possibly due to his being unaccustomed to the planet's atmosphere. He was eventually rescued by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. However, since they were in the middle of a Separatists attack, they could not treat him in a med station on a Venator-class cruiser due to the combat action taking place, so they commandeered a G9 Rigger freighter, called the Twilight, to transport Rotta directly to Tatooine. As Rotta's condition worsened, Ahsoka looked through the ship's cargo to search for something to help the Huttlet. With the assistance of a hologram of a med droid, Ahsoka gave him a pill that saved his life. Rotta took a great liking to Ahsoka, and wanted her to be close to him at all times.

Unfortunately, the Twilight was shot down in Tatooine's orbit by enemy forces. Rotta seemed to sense the Dark Side approaching at one point, and hid inside Anakin's pack. To keep Rotta safe, Anakin had his pack filled with rocks to distract Count Dooku while Ahsoka and R2-D2 took Rotta to his father. When Magna Guards stood in their way, Ahsoka defeated them. Just as Jabba was about to have Skywalker killed, thinking the Jedi had killed his son, Ahsoka arrived with the lost Huttlet. Jabba was overjoyed by the safety of his son but still wanted the Jedi killed until Padmé Amidala brought proof Ziro orchestrated the kidnapping. Jabba was then willing to sign the Republic's treaty, but not before settling a score with Ziro first.[3]

In 4 ABY, Jabba's will claimed he did not have any children to run his criminal empire after his death. Rotta may have been disowned or dead at this point.[5] Alternately, as the Hutt courts later declared Jabba's "will" a forgery,[6] Jabba's father Zorba may have been trying to deny his grandson's existence so as to take over Jabba's criminal empire for himself.

Behind the scenes

Rotta's name was first found on a LEGO Preliminary Image of an AT-TE set to be released under the Clone Wars TV series line. Further leaked information, including his LEGO pic, pointed to him being a young, or diminutive Hutt, and even being Jabba's son, or another close relative. A Clone Wars action figure card confirmed him as the son of Jabba.

In Star Wars Galaxies, a backpack was sold during the 2009 Galactic Moon Festival resembling a plush Rotta in the GAR backpack. However, the Republic symbol is replaced with the glowing moon and bat of the Galactic Moon Festival.
