History
A polo player from the eastern United States, Rodney Gaynor visited a small Mexican town. There, he was appalled by the living conditions of the poor farmers and the callousness of the landlords, he looked for a way to fight this injustice. Hearing the legedn of Don Fernando Suarez, who fought the Mexican land barons of the 1840s under the identity of "El Castigo" - the Whip. Taking the name and making it his own, he fought for the rights of the common man. In time, he began defending more of the American Southwest. He became allied with the
Vigilante, another Western hero. However, he eventually retired back east and fathered a son. His identity eventually became public knowledge, though few people cared. His grand-daughter, Shelly Gaynor, eventually tok up the name, with a radically different costume.

Rodney Gaynor had the strength of a healthy young man who engaged in regualr healthy exercise. He had no superhuman powers, but he possessed expert horse-riding skills and some skill with a whip.
