Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 – April 22, 1994) was a male human who served as President of the United States of America from 1969 to 1974.

During his presidency, Nixon met with Henry Starling, and the two men were photographed together. (VOY episode: "Future's End")

The discovery of a break-in at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC, in 1972 led to the uncovering of a series of scandals involving Nixon and members of his administration. Rather than face almost certain impeachment for his involvement, Nixon resigned from the Presidency in August of 1974.

"Only Nixon could go to China"

Nixon had reputation through his early political career for anti-communism. When the United States began to explore improving relations with the communist nation of China, it was Nixon's reputation that allowed him to travel to China and meet its leader, Mao Zedong, February of 1972, without concern that he would be criticized as being too "soft" on that nation. This historical event became a political metaphor, "Only Nixon could go to China."

This metaphor was later adapted by Vulcan culture (TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country), and used as an alternate translation of a similar historically-based metaphor from Vulcan culture: "Only Soval could go to Andoria." (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds) During Jean-Luc Picard's confinement in a medical facility in 2378, a holographic Vulcan quoted the Nixon version of the phrase, as a test of his response. (TNG novel: A Time to Die)

Generally unknown at the time was the fact that Chinese and Soviet agents planned to replace Nixon during his visit to Beijing with a cosmetically-altered agent from Soviet Georgia. Though agents Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln attempted to stop the switch, Nixon and his impostor ultimately came face-to-face, and one killed the other. It was unclear which survived, but Seven used his servo to ensure the remaining Nixon believed he was the real Nixon, with no memory of the Communist plot. (TOS - Star Trek: Assignment Earth comic: "Too Many Presidents")

The ISS Nixon of the mirror universe's Terran Empire, is likely named for Nixon's mirror counterpart. (TOS comic: "The Mirror Universe Saga")
