Genre Description

Retropop is a form of modern-day pop music that sounds like pop from the 1960s. The biggest influence on the sound seems to be The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, though the Beatles have obviously made a big impression. Sometimes the sound is updated -- some of The Apples in stereo's stuff sounds like a cross between Pet Sounds and The Ramones, for example. Retropop is typically bouncy and happy, though sometimes lyrical themes can be darker, or speak more of alienation, in the case of some of the Belle & Sebastian songs. It is typically related to Indie-Pop.
