A reporter is a type of journalist who gathers information on events and through news organizations informs others about the event.

In 2372, Kevin Alton was a Federation News Network reporter covering the Myhr'an attack on Canaileus Prime. (Star Trek: The Cantabrian Expeditions: "Oh, What a Lovely War")

Jake Sisko was a reporter, signing with the Federation News Service just prior to the Dominion War he covered many events during the conflict, including the Dominion occupation of Deep Space 9 and the First Battle of Chin'toka. (DS9: "Call to Arms", "Time to Stand", "Tears of the Prophets")

After his retirement from active duty with Starfleet, Jordan Dennis initially worked as a reporter with the FNS. Early in his career, Scott Cronyn worked as a reporter for the Federation News Network, eventually becoming one of their broadcast anchors. (Star Trek: Pendragon: "The Distant Fire", "Promised Land")
