Regent was a title that was given to an individual who rules on behalf of another, typically because the actual ruler has not reached the age of maturity, or is otherwise absent or infirm.

In the mirror universe, the ruler of the Klingon Empire held the title of regent as it was believed that they were just acting as rulers until Kahless the Unforgettable returned. A few notable regents were Sturka and his successor, Gorkon, who fermented the alliance between the Klingons and the Terran Empire in the 2290s. (TOS novel: The Sorrows of Empire; Star Trek: Daedalus - A Burning House: "Alliances")

The head of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance was also referred to as regent. In the 2370s, Worf held the title. (DS9: "Shattered Mirror", "The Emperor's New Cloak")

Regent was also the name of a renegade member of the Q Continuum, working at odds of the Temporal Houses to unleash the Great Destroyer in the personification of Takila Mak. (Star Trek: The Section 31 Files)

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Morlish Veed, Regent of the Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire
"I will again assume the duties all Wyyrlok have held while our Master rests in stasis—as the voice of our Lord Krayt and regent of the Sith Order."
―Darth Wyyrlok III

A regent was the title held by a temporary ruler serving in the absence of a monarch, notably in the case of Ord Cestus, and Kallos Sook of the Naboo princely city state of Kaadara.

In the case of the One Sith, various Chagrian Sith Lords, each bearing in turn the name of Darth Wyyrlok, bore the title while the One Sith's leader, Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Krayt, went into stasis. The Regent was considered the "voice" of the Dark Lord and commanded in his stead. By 137 ABY, a third Wyyrlok assumed control of the One Sith as regent after killing the Dark Lord on Had Abbadon.

Regent was also the title given to Grand Admiral Morlish Veed when he agreed to act as a figurehead for Darth Wyyrlok and the public face of the Galactic Empire.
