Ares One: NASA's first manned mission to the dead planet Mars. But is Mars as dead as it seems?
While the NASA team investigate an 'anomaly' on the planet's surface, the Doctor and Peri find themselves inside a strange alien building. What is its purpose? And what is frozen inside the blocks of ice that guard the doorways? If the Doctor has a sense of deja-vu, it's because he's about to meet some old adversaries, as well as some new ones...

![]() "Red Dawn", episode of X-Men: The Animated Series |
The Red Dawn was a terrorist group, founded some time during the Yuuzhan Vong War which had undermined dozens of governments, corporations, and in extreme cases, an entire system. The Red Dawn waged a covert war against the Galactic Alliance for upwards of 8 years, until the defeat of the founders, Markre Medjev and Cem Fel, in 38 ABY.

The Red Dawn was formed sometime during the War with the Yuuzhan Vong (sources point to 27 ABY) by Markre Medjev, a talented Jedi Knight. At its conception, the Dawn was originally going to be a galaxy-wide intelligence network designed to aid the Jedi in hiding from Tsavong Lah's forces. Within months of the signing of the first intelligence operative, a young Jedi named Tarc Rethcoe, Medjev was contacted by a Cem Fel, whom he supposed to be a member of the legendary Fel family. In truth, Cem was the Fel's Shadow Child and his existence wasn't even known by the Fel's oldest son, Jagged Fel. Cem Fel was actually a high-ranking member of the Empire of the Hand a branch of the Empire formed by the infamous Grand Admiral Thrawn. Cem Fel secretly incorporated the Dawn's resources into building u contacts he already held, and by the end of the war, The Red Dawn was one of the farthest reaching intelligence networks in the Galaxy.
In 31 ABY, Cem Fel contacted former Cheif of State nominee Pwoe, to see if the Quarren had any interest in becoming the Cheif again. Pwoe, being power-hungry, quickly accepted. Within the year, Medjev was able to use his insight to delve into the horrible truth of his operations. Jedi Knight Tarce Rethcoe had been using the Dawn's resources to support the Peace Brigade. When Markre went to investigate Tarc's whereabouts, he was intercepted by Cem Fel's cruiser Shadow Child. Aboard that ship was the 3rd ruling member of the Red Dawn, Lumiya, Dark Lady of the Sith! Lumiya held Medjev there for many weeks, breaking his spirit, and corruting him to the dark side, like she had done with so many others. By the time he emerged, Markre Medjev was ready and willing to bring the Alliance, and its Jedi allies, to its knees.
Using their puppets Markre Medjev and Tarc Rethcoe, the Red Dawn was able to influence Galactic events, unseen, for the next 5 years. They assassinated politicians, fixed ballots, enslaved indigenous species and embezzled funds. By 34 ABY, the Red Dawn was the single most powerful entity in the Galaxy. During this time, Markre Medjev devised a plan to bring the supposedly "corrupt" Jedi to its knees, and rebuild it in his image. He was going to drive a spike through the Skywalker-Solo family, causing an old fued to start with. Markre told Tarc Rethcoe of his old nemesis, Bryn Fulcron's whereabouts. Rethcoe immediately set off to exact revenge on Fulcron during the latter's honeymoon on Manaan. Rethcoe poisoned Fulcron, hoping to put his old rival out of commission once and for all. Instead of killing him, the poison only made Fulcron stronger, alerting him to the Dawn's existence.
Soon afterwards, with authorization of the Jedi Order, Bryn Fulcron became a leader of The Crusaders, a group of Jedi dedicated to stopping the Red Dawn. After a series of confrontations on multiple planets, The Crusaders tracked Rethcoe to Sleheryon, a volcanic world once used for mining, which, in the tongue of the Hutts, literally means "Red Dawn". After defeating the Red Dawn presence on the planet, The Crusaders found the location of the Red Dawn home base, located on Raxus Prime. During a climactic battle: Fulcron and Jaina Solo taking on 10 cloned Jedi and Rethcoe in the base's cloning complex, Fulcron did what one would have thought impossible during such circumstances; he spared his nemesis' life, and brought him to Coruscant to await trail. Unbeknownst to Bryn was the fact that the Red Dawn's true leaders had not yet shown themselves.
In retribution for Bryn Fulcron's actions during the past year, Cem Fel revealed himself to the Jedi and began a massive couter-attack against Chiss space. The Ascendancy, whose higher-ups still denied Fel's existence, did nothing to prevent the coup. So, once again, The Crusaders were called into action. Onboard the Shadow Child Fel held Fulcron and his wife Jaina Solo cative for many days. In his arrogance, however he neglected to imprison the non force-using members of the Crusaders. So it happened that Shada D'ukal, Jag Fel, Talon Karrde and Shawnkyr Nurudo evaded all detection by the Chiss patrols and released a large portion of the Crusaders. During the confusion, Cem Fel stabbed Bryn Fulcron in the back with a vibro-knife. He was subsequently struck-down by Bryn's sister Bryt. Cem Fel did not survive. After the incident, the CEDF signed a treaty of compliance, henceforth called The Mobus Pact, which stated that the Ascendancy and the Galactic Alliance would share any and all information about potential threats.
Merely days later, the self-appointed Sith, Markre Medjev, launched an impromptu attack on the Jedi Temple on Ossus. His forces consisted of a large group of ancient CIS Battle Droids, a smattering of bounty hunters (including Dengar and Bossk) and what remained of the Red Dawn's assassin droids. The force, while not superior in any regard, surprised the Jedi and forced the entirety of the order into a small portion of the Temple. Luke Skywalker chose two of the more powerful Master, Kyp Durron and Kyle Katarn, to lead a retaliation on the Dawn's forces. Soon after, they too, became trapped. It was then that Fulcron's destiny came full circle. While still injured by Cem Fel's last attack, he and Jacen Solo paired together and stormed through the Temple's center, eventually confronting Medjev himself. It was then that Medjev revealed the final ruling member of the Red Dawn, former head of Republic Intelligence, Dif Scaur. Scaur, however, was not alone. He had brought his most hideous creation, a cloned being, created from the remains of Irek Ismaren. This creature, named Nyax 2.0, quickly incapacitated both Solo and Fulcron. Nyax 2.0, however, had a mind of its own, and turned on Scaur, devouring him. It then moved on through the temple, looking for Jedi to feed upon. After awaking, Fulcron moved off to intercept the beast. Skywalker, Durron and Katarn arrived shortly after, and subdued the enraged Markre Medjev. After a tense showdown in the Padawan's training room, Jacen + Jaina Solo helped Bryn Fulcron defeat the seemingly unstoppable Nyax 2.0. The damage had been done. 3 Jedi Younglings had been killed, along with 2 Knights (Wonetun and Izal Waz) and an escaped Markre Medjev.
After the attack on the temple, the Red Dawn was seemingly finished. As long as Lumiya survived, however, the Galaxy was always under its threat.
The Red Dawn used many different types of Droids and soldiers in its conquest, most notably the custom versions of YVH Battle Droids that they outfitted with vibro-staffs and electric stingers.
