From Final Fantasy Wiki

Quicksand as seen in Final Fantasy V.

Quicksand, also called Whirlsand, is a recurring ability in the series. It is often used by enemies, but is also an ability the party may use, usually used with the Geomancer class. It either removes a target from the battle or inflicts non-elemental damage to the entire party.

Contents

Appearances

Final Fantasy V

Quicksand is used by the boss Sandworm and by the enemies Desert Killer and Spizzner. It inflicts 60 fixed non-elemental damage to the party and inflicts Sap. It is also a Gaia ability which can only be used when fighting in deserts, and inflicts Instant Death to all enemies in the battle.

Whirlsand in Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII

Whirlsand, used by Ruby Weapon, removes one party member from the battle permanently (this party member is considered dead and cannot be brought back into the battle by any means). It is only used if there are more than one living party member in the battle, and only if it does not have its tentacles in the ground.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Used by Geomancers, it inflicts Water-elemental damage and Doom to all enemies within five spaces from the character. It costs 150 JP to learn.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

Quicksand is used by Land Worm, Sand Worm, and Leech. It inflicts Earth-elemental damage and also lowers Speed.

Notes

  • Two energy is drained if an attack skill is used as it counts as both an attack and a skill used.
  • This elite is more effective against non-caster professions, because the only way they deal damage is by attacking, and thus, draining their energy much quicker than casting spells.

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Quicksand was a pit of loose or watery sand that would drown unsuspecting victims. There were many pits of quicksand on Kirdo III, and some quicksand was on Tatooine.

One was often adviced to avoid quicksand.
