Interactions with the player character

He provides you with equipment for the quests Paving the Way and Operation: Anchorage. All you need to do is bring him a Requisition Holo. He can also provide you with a Scoped Gauss Rifle in addition to the equipment you've chosen if you pass his Speech challenge.

Notes

  • He is the only person that you can kill in the simulation that won't de-materialize and you can search him.
  • He can be used as a container, and with a high enough sneak skill, with a decent damage weapon (Gauss Rifle or Sniper Rifle, Shotgun) you can kill him from within his tent and only Sergeant Benjamin Montgomery will attack you; but, as he is immortal, do this only before going to the pulse field to get an additional winter combat armor and assault rifle. Note: If you do this, the whole camp might fire upon Sergeant Benjamin Montgomery, but he will not become hostile to them.
  • When everyone is attacking Sergeant Montgomery, they don't turn hostile if you kill any soldier thus giving you some very easy experience. But you do receive an immortal Montgomery that will never stop shooting you... (360)
  • If you fail to do so, occasionally the whole camp (besides Sergeant Benjamin Montgomery) will attack you, but Sergeant Benjamin Montgomery should kill most of them. However, this may cause the second wave of Power Armored Soldiers to attack you during your fight with General Jingwei.
  • If you plan to use the glitch to get stuff, kill him before the first attack with the squad, take his Combat Armor, reverse Pickpocket it onto an American Grease-Monkey, do the mission, and pickpocket the same American Grease-Monkey for his Army Mechanic Jumpsuit, as this is the only place they are in the game.
  • You can also kill him by punching him; after awhile he becomes aggressive and will attack you. All of camp will then come and kill him for you (only checked on 360). (Push the Quartermaster to the back of the tent to avoid Sgt. Montgomery seeing the fight and becoming hostile.)
  • To avoid any NPC aggression, you can also dispatch of him with Frag Grenades or Mines either while in sneak mode (the status oddly doesn't matter) or from within the tent. The Quartermaster won't become hostile even if he's facing you, and as long as you're sneaking or far enough in the tent that Sgt. Montgomery can't detect you, he won't become hostile either. (Tested on 360)

Appearances

The Quartermaster appears only in a simulation in the Operation: Anchorage add-on for Fallout 3.
