Quantum Chemist is a Perk added to Fallout 3 with the Broken Steel add-on.

With this perk, every 10 Nuka-Colas you acquire are automatically converted into a Nuka-Cola Quantum. A notification in the top left of the screen will inform the player of the 10 Nuka-Cola being removed and the 1 Nuka-Cola Quantum being added. If you are trying to do the Nuka-Cola Challenge, it would take 300 Nuka-Colas to get the necessary 30 Nuka-Cola Quantums.

  • You automatically give up every Nuka-Cola you are carrying once you get 10 to obtain the Quantum. This can be detrimental if you primarily use Nuka-Colas to restore health. This can be avoided by either carrying fewer than 10 at one time or keeping a supply of Ice Cold Nuka-Colas.
  • This Perk does NOT affect bottles of Ice Cold Nuka-Cola.
  • This Perk allows the player to circumvent the hard limit of Nuka Cola Quantums placed in the game (94 loose in the world, plus the possibility of finding up to 152 in vending machines). Since regular Nuka Colas can be found restocked in merchant inventories, this perk allows for a potentially infinite number of Quantums. This can be a great way to get enough Quantums for the Nuka-Cola Challenge quest, as these Quantums will work the same as if you found one before having this Perk.
  • Additionally, the player can wait until receiving this Perk to start the Nuka-Cola Challenge and loot the Nuka-Colas around Sierra Petrovita's house.
  • Also, Nuka-Cola will regularly respawn in most merchants inventories, like Jenny Stahl's at The Brass Lantern or Doc Hoff's Caravan, but you can also go and visit the Underworld or Rivet City's Marketplace for more.
  • When considering that the 3rd rank of the Nuka Grenade schematic makes 3 grenades for every single bottle of quantum, this means roughly every 3-4 bottles of Nuka Cola will give you one Nuka Grenade.
  • This also makes the use of Nuka Grenades much more attractive, as the player no longer needs to search as hard for the ingredients.
  • There is a mod that allow you to use Ice Cold Nuka-Colas to make Nuka Cola Quantums.

  • Sometimes, it will not show Science requirement while choosing from the list of available Perks. (Confirmed on All Systems)
  • The Science requirement may in reality be a skill level of 69, instead of the listed skill requirement of 70. (confirmed X-Box 360)
