From The Vault

Fallout 3
requirements: Level 22
ranks: 1
benefit: Dogmeat gets reincarnated as a puppy if he dies
base id: xx003211

Puppies! is a perk added to Fallout 3 with the Broken Steel add-on.

With this perk Dogmeat is reincarnated as a puppy every time he dies and can be added back to your group either by finding him resurrected at the location of his death or by waiting until he is moved to the Vault 101 entrance. Dogmeat's puppy is much tougher than the original Dogmeat.

Despite the name, this perk only allows you to get one Dogmeat's Puppy at a time. If it dies, it will be replaced by a new puppy.

This perk still works if Dogmeat died pre-Broken Steel.

  • Dogmeat's Puppy is visually the same, but has a new name (Dogmeat's Puppy), and some of the dialogue available with it refers to it by different names (such as boy).
  • It has double the health (1000) of the original Dogmeat.
  • It uses the exact same ref and base ids, upon death Dogmeat is simply respawned with a new name and increased Health effect added.
  • If you have 2 Human/Mutant followers in your party then one will have to be Fired once this perk is chosen as if the original Dogmeat was to be still alive.
  • A good way to get XP and Bad Karma is by killing him over and over again.
  • With this perk you are able to get all the followers. See Fallout 3 exploits for more details
  • If you did not add Dogmeat to your group or accidentally killed him before befriending him, with this perk he will regenerate where he died and you will have the option to befriend him as the original Dogmeat. (discovered during Broken Steel)
  • If you knock it down using Paralyzing Palm or any other tactic, then you place items on it, then ask for it to find anything, it will give you back your stuff (PS3).

A bug with the perk can be that the new Dogmeat Puppy does not respond to your comand and simply stays solitary where it spawns. confirmed ps3 does not appear to fix itself, save before killing dogmeat so as to avoid having to load from a while back.
