From Final Fantasy Wiki

"The balance was broken. Those who answered Chaos's call created an inexhaustible force. And under vicious attack without relent, the warriors fighting for Cosmos started to fall one by one. The conflict that has been continued for eons is now about to end in Chaos's favor. The world has been torn asunder, sinking into a vortex of disorder. As for the few surviving warriors..."

The Prologue, titled The Shattered World, is the first level available on Story Mode in Dissidia Final Fantasy. It features several simple stages intended to let the player learn the controls and aspects of the game and therefore is not difficult to defeat. The Warrior of Light is controlled. Upon completion, the ten Destiny Odyssey levels are unlocked. This acted as the tutorial in the Japanese version, but in the Western releases, there is a shortened tutorial that is separate from the prologue; the new tutorial was shortened from about one hour to just ten minutes.

The level starts with the opening FMV where the ten Warriors of Cosmos fight against the Warriors of Chaos.

The Warrior of Light finds himself in the Order's Sanctuary. Upon hearing Cosmos's voice stating that she had been defeated and seeing a light in the distance, the warrior decides to walk up and investigate it.

After defeating all the Manikins, the Warrior of Light finds Cosmos. Appearing to all the Warriors of Cosmos, Cosmos asks them to obtain the crystals as they can be used to save the world.
