"As a society grows more decadent, so does the language of the government. Words are used to disguise action, not illuminate it. You liberate a planet by destroying it, for example. Words are used to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests."
—Pollux Hax to Aay Zavos

Pollux Hax was a high-ranking official within the Galactic Republic during the Invasion of Utapau, serving as the lead of the Republic Ministry of Information. With such a position, he was a member of Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum's inner circle during his tenure. He was an associate of Aay Zavos, so many people did not trust him, also due to the fact that he was frequently known to spin certain information in the favor of the Supreme Chancellor.

Before becoming a member of government, Pollux was a member of the security forces on Chandrila, his homeworld. After he served for nearly ten years, he began participating in political debates in the well known Chandrila Rotunda before eventually becoming a congressional representative under the then-Senator of Chandrilla. During that time, one of the other representatives was Mon Mothma. After the Senator retired, Mothma was elected to take his place, much to Pollux’s dismay as he too had hoped to do so, though he failed to receive his party’s nomination.

Following his defeat, Pollux found alternate ways to become more active in government. He relinquished his position as a Chandrilan representative and became an assistant bureau chief on Coruscant for the Republic Ministry of Information. Upon the removal of his superior, Pollux became the bureau chief on Coruscant, where he began his associations with Aay Zavos and some forms of organized crime. Once Finis Valorum was elected Supreme Chancellor, Valorum selected Pollux to lead the entire organization.

Behind the scenes

Along with being part of the Alternative Star Wars Saga, Pollux Hax is also a very minor character found in Star Wars canon. He was introduced as the head of the Imperial Propaganda Dissemination Section. Very little is known about him, though it is known that he and the section were commissioned to write a report about Coruscant, then-Imperial Center, to show how glorious and wonderful it was. The report was approved by Emperor Palpatine himself and it was presented just the way the Emperor wanted it to be presented, though it was also stated that not a single word was changed from the original text.

When writing Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One, author Brandon Rhea decided that when dealing with the politics of the Galactic Republic, he would show far more corruption than was shown in George Lucas’s films. To help do so, Rhea selected Pollux Hax as one of the characters to introduce, knowing that an information spinster would make for an interesting character within the political arena in the Alternative Saga.
