The ship docked in East Hook.

The Platypus is a cargo ship in Grand Theft Auto IV. Niko Bellic served as a crew-member for several months, along with Hossan Ramzy. It was involved in smuggling operations, including diamonds, heroin and sports cars. When Niko arrives aboard the Platypus in East Hook, Liberty City, the ship is carrying immigrants from across Europe, including Spain, Germany, Egypt, Taiwan and Serbia.

According to news reports, the captain and entire crew of the Platypus disappeared shortly after the ship docked and the passengers disembarked. One of the crew was found in the Humboldt River with whip scars on his back - apparently the man who was engaging in sado-masochism with a woman as the ship was docking. The ship remains docked in Broker throughout the game and, if Niko chooses to exact his revenge on Dimitri Rascalov, is the setting for A Dish Served Cold, suggesting Dimitri intended to steal it and escape America. After this he calls Roman to tell him that "it ended where it began".

The diamonds that interweave between the main stories of Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony came from the Platypus when Anthony Prince attempted to purchase them from one of the ship's crew, the cook. When the deal was done, Johnny Klebitz and The Lost ambushed the deal and stole the diamonds for Ray Boccino during this, Johnny ends up killing Tony's boyfriend Evan Moss

The Platypus is also included in the Bomb Da Base II mode of GTA IV's multiplayer. After stealing a Securicar loaded with explosives, a helicopter flies to the Platypus. Arriving at the Platypus, a heavy gun battle begins. This is similar to the Revenge mission, however the Platypus ship is now under control of the Albanians. Two bombs must be planted on either the upper or lower levels of the ship while gunning down Albanians. The multiplayer team must then escape the ship before the explosion.

If the multiplayer storyline is canon with the campaign, that would mean the Platypus is no more.

The Platypus is a Summoning pet available at level 10 Summoning. It is caught via Hunter at level 48 using a box trap. You have to lure the creature towards the trap using smouldering lavender. Use a Tinderbox on lavender to cause it to smoulder. Doing so will also equip the smouldering lavender in the weapon slot. The smouldering lavender will be consumed after a few moments and become Ashes (appearing in your inventory if there's room or else being dropped). Unequipping it immediately extinguishes it and turns it into ashes.

Once caught your platypus eats raw fish and seems to have a rather large intellect for its species.

Platypodes can be caught in Oo'glog during the quest As a First Resort.... Platypodes and baby platypodes can be caught south of Oo'glog after the quest. Level 48 Hunter is required to catch either form. Level 10 Summoning is also required to catch the baby form, which becomes a pet and can then grow to the adult form. As a pet, a baby platypus must be fed raw Fish.

BE WARNED: Smouldering lavender will cause nearby wimpy birds to attack you constantly, dealing 2 damage with each hit. The birds cannot be attacked, and armour or protection prayers do not prevent the damage. Smouldering tansymum will cause all nearby platypodes to flee from you. Smouldering fever grass will cause them to attack you with poison. However due to the proximity to the Spa pools this isn't fatal, as you can heal hit points and stop poisoning.

Like most pets, this pet has a growth rate of 1% for every 15% hunger.

Releasing the pet platypus in the same location as done during the quest will result in another casket or oyster.
