History

As early as the 1780s, patriotic hero Uncle Sam has been active in the Philadelphia area, as well as many other commonwealth regions of the American colonies.

In the late 1800s, Philadelphia was but one of many stop-gaps for traveling bounty hunter Jonah Hex.

In the 1940s, Philadelphia was the base of operations of All-Star Squadron members Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle. Liberty Belle derived her power from a replica of the original Liberty Bell which resides in the tower of Independence Hall.

In May of 1942, Nazi agents Baron Blitzkrieg and Der Zyklon broke into Independence Hall to steal the Liberty Bell. They murdered security guard Tom Revere and fought up against the All-Star Squadron members Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle. ^[1]

Philadelphia is the home town of legacy hero Ray Terrill. As the Ray, he continues to fight crime in the City of Brotherly Love.

Wonder Girl (Cassandra Sandsmark) operates out of Philadelphia when she is not adventuring with the Teen Titans.

Tommy Elliot - the villain known as Hush lived in Philadelphia for many years. Elliot eventually left Philadelphia to set up a base of operations in Gotham City. ^[2]

Philadelphia was also the base of operations of a short-lived heroine named Virago. However, Virago was struck down early in her career by the villain known as Onomatopoeia. ^[3]

In recent years, Philadelphia was the site of a major battle between Doctor Light (Arthur Light), Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) and a full assemblage of Teen Titans.

Philadelphia was the scene of a battle between Damage and the villain known as Rebel. Hourman (Rick Tyler) and Liberty Belle aide Damage in bringing Rebel to justice. ^[4]

In The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Electric Mayhem get a gig playing polka just outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

Sesame Place, the official Sesame Street amusement park, is located in Langhorne, PA.

In The Muppet Show episode 108, guest star Paul Williams appears in a sketch playing a travel agent. Beautiful Day Monster is his customer, trying to buy a ticket to Pittsburgh. No matter what Williams suggests, the monster's reply is, "Got anything cheaper?" Finally, Williams crushes the monster flat, and sends him air mail.

Muppeteer Bill Barretta is from Yardley, PA.

Sesame Street's The American Revolution showed a recreation of the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, PA. Muppets Tonight's Great Moments in Elvis History also showed an Elvis recreation of the founding fathers' events in Philadelphia, PA.

The Second Continental Congress was also depicted by the Muppets in the 1982 special I Love Liberty.

In March 2007, Philadelphia temporarily renamed Broad Street to Sesame Street, in honor of the Sesame Street Live show Super Grover! Ready for Action. Super Grover and Elmo were on hand for the renaming ceremony. The renaming lasted for the two-week run of the show. ^[1]

In the book The Muppets Make Puppets!, the rod puppet Dolly Carton (modeled after Dolly Parton has her birthplace listed as Pittsburgh.
