Peter Woodthorpe (1931-2004) was a British character actor and voice actor who appeared in two Creature Shop TV movies, as Mentor in The Odyssey and the aged soothsayer in Merlin.

Woodthorpe's career in film, television, and radio spanned four decades. One of his more notable assignments was the voice of Gollum, first in Ralph Bakshi's animated The Lord of the Rings and later in the BBC radio version (with Michael Hordern as Gandalf). Other radio work included several Wodehouse adaptations, playing Lord Worplesdon in Joy in the Morning and Albert Peasemarch in Luck of the Bodkins.

On-camera, Woodthorpe appeared in such varied films as The Evils of Frankenstein (as Professor Zoltan), The Charge of the Light Brigade, The Mirror Crack'd, Jane Eyre, and The Madness of King George (a cameo as a bribed clergyman). In television, Woodthorpe had a recurring role as Max the pathologist in the first season of Inspector Morse. Other TV work included guest spots on Sherlock Holmes and Z Cars, and Dickens adaptations of A Christmas Carol (as Old Joe) and David Copperfield (as Creakle).
