Pennsylvania is a region of the North American continent on the planet Earth, with boundaries that were created as the area was settled as a geopolitical subdivision of the United States of America nation.
During the early 20th century, labor union leader Sean Aloysius O'Brien lived in western Pennsylvania. In 1902 O'Brien helped lead an ultimately successful anthracite strike. O'Brien had not lived to see to see the end of the strike, having been assassinated shortly before the end of the strike. O'Brien had been found in the Allegheny River with nearly three dozen bullets in his body. The funeral held for O'Brien was one of the largest ever seen in that part of Pennsylvania. The memory of Sean O'Brien lived to the 24th century, when his descendant Miles O'Brien related his story to Rom. (DS9 episode: "Bar Association")
A little more than fifty years after Sean O'Brien's death, the unofficial "First Contact" occured near the small mining town of Carbon Creek. T'Mir was one of three Vulcans to make first contact with Humans when their ship crashed while observing Sputnik 1 in orbit. (ENT episode: "Carbon Creek")
Selma Guitierrez lived for most of her childhood in the city of Pittsburgh. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure)
