Pearl Harbor is a harbor located on the island of Oʻahu, which is part of the state of Hawaii. Much of the harbor and surrounding area served as a base for the United States Navy during the 20th and 21st centuries.

On December 7, 1941, the nation-state of Japan staged a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, hoping to cripple the American naval forces. While devastating for American forces, the carriers which were the primary targets were not at the harbor at the time, and only three ships were permanently lost in the attack. In the aftermath of the attack, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt asked for and received a declaration of war upon Japan, thus bringing the United States of America into World War II.

In the 24th century, the attack on Pearl Harbor was still remembered by humans as a preamble to war, and was compared to similar attacks such as that on Station Salem-One. (TNG episode: "The Enemy")

World War II

Main article: World War II

On December 6th-7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese navy conducted a surprise military strike on Pearl Harbor, galvanizing the entire nation into officially entering World War II. Most of the neophyte mystery men active at this time were unable to respond to the attack, owing largely to the machinations of the time traveling super-villain Per Degaton. One retired hero, Rod Reilly, formerly known as Firebrand had enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was killed along with his friend Slugger Dunn in a strafing run during the attack. Rod's sister, Danette eventually honored his memory by taking up the mantle of Firebrand. [1]

In response to the attack, the mysterious spirit of liberty known as Uncle Sam established the Freedom Fighters and accompanied them to Pearl Harbor in a heroic rescue effort. Although the battle took a heavy toll on the Freedom Fighters, most of them survived, with the only true casualty being the little-known hero, Magno. [2]

The heroine Miss America was injured during the attack, but was found by representatives of Project M and resuscitated at their secret laboratory inside the Statue of Liberty. [3]

American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt took decisive action to bring America into the war. He instructed members of the Justice Society of America to gather every active American super-hero they could find to form an All-Star Squadron that would answer directly to the President.

The attack on Pearl Harbor inspired William Storm to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he soon became one of the country's most accomplished PT boat commanders. [4]

Modern Era

Several years ago, Aquaman created a massive tidal wave that flooded Pearl Harbor just to get the attention of a military commander named Admiral Strom, whom possessed intimate knowledge of Aquaman's surrogate mother, Porm. This incident prompted a fight between Aquaman and Hawaii's resident super-hero Superboy. Strom, in league with an alien race known as the Annunake was also responsible for setting Aquaman to fight against Charybdis, a battle that cost Aquaman his left hand. Following the flood, Strom used his resources to make sure that no official record existed concerning Aquaman's attack against Pearl Harbor. [5]

A few years later, a group of Furries from the secret island known as the Wild Lands launched their own attack against Pearl Harbor. The architect behind this attack was the bat-woman known as Nosferata who had aligned herself with an army of gorilla soldiers. Nosferata's bat-winged servants air-dropped the gorilla soldiers onto the base where they came into conflict with the super-heroes Guardian and Superboy. Assisting the heroes in repelling Nosferata's attack were the Wild Men. The heroes succeeded and the ape aggressors were apprehended. [6]
