This article is about training Magic using pay-to-play methods. For Magic, the skill, see Magic.

This guide will help members train mage from 1 to 99.

Any of the stat requirements listed here can be met with the aid of a wizard's mind bomb or magic potion.

Level Members only Type What & Where? XP/Hour Cost/XP Other requirements
All Levels No Combat Cast any attack spell in Clan Wars or Soul Wars. The higher the magic level, the better, so that a player can cast higher-level spells.
All Levels No Combat Dark Warriors The Dark Warriors' Fortress has an unlimited supply of Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Body, Mind, and Chaos runes to use on the level 8 Dark Warriors.
All Levels No Combat Cast elemental spells at spiders in Lumbridge basement with melee armour on this can be done with any combat spell but you get faster exp for a higher spell.
9 No Combat Earth Strike Cast Earth Strike on any monster that is weak to magic. (See the pay-to-play melee training guide for good monsters to train on at this level.) It helps to attack monsters that drop items that have a relatively high value to partially or fully pay back the runes used.
13 No Combat Fire Strike Cast Fire Strike on the monsters mentioned above.
19 No Non-combat Curse Cast Curse on monsters. Put on metal armour, such as full iron, so that the spell will fail. However, this still gives experience, and the spell can be cast again instantly. Using this method can be fast and relatively cheap. For members, casting Curse on the blue dragon under the Heroes' Guild is good magic experience since dragons have high magic defence and the spell will splash very often. The Monk of Zamorak caged under the stairs in Varrock Palace and the lesser demon caged on the top floor of the Wizards' Tower are also good targets.
An alternative is to Curse the magic dummies in Lumbridge, as they can be Cursed again instantly even if the spell hits.Casting Curse is a fast and cost-effective way of levelling magic. A persistent player will without problem cast 20 Curse spells per minute. 35,000 6.2
If you have a staff of earth, you can greatly reduce the cost per experience point. 3.1 Staff of earth
Another option is a Mud battlestaff which helps in that it supplies unlimited Water and Earth runes; the staff is expensive (477,435 coins) but will pay for itself after 2876.1144578313 casts of curse (about 175 minutes at 20 casts per minute). 0.5 Mud battlestaff
33 No Non-combat Grab Use Telekinetic Grab to grab valuable but otherwise unreachable objects. The profit for selling the object then offsets the price of the law rune for the spell. The cost/XP listed here assumes you have a staff of air, if not the cost is slightly higher as you must also purchase air runes. For example, use the spell in the basement of west Varrock bank to get the gold ore inside of the vault and then sell the ore for about a 100 gp profit. Buy another Law rune, and repeat. However, the gold ore respawns very slowly (3 min 40 sec), so this is a very slow way both to earn profit and to level up. 688 Profit Staff of air
Use Telekinetic Grab in the basement of west Varrock bank, take the gold ore, the gold necklace, the gold bar, the brass necklace, and all of the coins. 6,880 5.1
One may also choose to collect Wine of Zamorak, as this is highly valued by high-level herblorists. 3,612 Profit
Another way to profit from using Telekinetic grab is buying Law runes for 300 each and Telegrabbing the Nature runes north-east of Rellekka. There are two in a stack, which can sell for a total of 600 coins, for a 300 gp profit. However, this stack takes approximately one minute to respawn. A player could grab the nearby sapphire in this time. Even though these are cost-effective methods, they are very slow and can hardly be compared to Cursing.
Alternatively, if a member, use Telegrab in the Telekinetic Theatre of the Mage Training Arena for Pizazz points, which can be traded for Infinity robes if the player has also earned points in the other rooms.
39 No Combat Use Crumble Undead on Skeletons in the Varrock Sewers, Taverley Dungeon, or Shilo Village or the Shades in Shades of Mort'ton (minigame) or the Stronghold of Security. The experience you get is higher than from a Fire bolt, which needs a Chaos rune too. 40,000 6.4
40+ Yes Combat Use the Sacred Clay robes and/or magic staff rewards obtained from Stealing Creation to double the experience received from casting any combat spell.
41 No Combat Buy an Air staff and use Wind Blast. 9.7 Staff of air
43 No Non-combat Requires level 50 Smithing minimum. Purchase all ores required at the Grand Exchange to smith a Mithril, Adamantite, or Runite bars; equip a Fire staff; and use the spell Superheat Item to smelt into bars. This is the fastest way to train Magic and Smithing simultaneously, with relatively little cost to small profit. A profit can be made when smelting steel/rune bars.
45 Yes Non-combat Repeatedly cast Camelot Teleport. By using an Air staff, only one Law rune will be used for this popular training method. This spell can be cast at a relatively fast rate, with a gain of 55.5 magic experience per spell.
50 Yes Combat If high combat: The guide to the Barrows covers this in more detail, but the Barrows can be extremely profitable magic experience because of the rewards. The melee brothers are very weak to magic.
50 Yes Combat If 50 attack and done Underground Pass: Enter the Underground Pass with 1,000 or more Death runes and 5,000 or more Fire runes. Go all the way to the Paladins and cast Iban Blast on them or on some other nearby monster. Recharge Iban's staff at the well nearby as necessary.
55 No Non-combat Cast High Level Alchemy. Use a Fire staff so as to only consume 1 Nature rune per spell. Players can position the items to alchemise in the same spot in their Inventory as the High Level Alchemy spell occupies in the standard spellbook and then cast the spell using Mouse keys. Consult the High alchemy calculator for advice on which items to convert into coins. High alchemy is a popular and consistent training method. 78,000
60 Yes Non-combat Casting the Bones to Peaches spell in Creature Graveyard at the Mage Training Arena is good experience as well as goes toward making a profit by buying and selling Infinity robes, if the player has also earned Pizazz points in the other rooms. A Mud battlestaff is recommended.
66 Yes Non-combat Buy Unpowered orbs and Cosmic runes and craft Air orbs. This yields a reasonable amount of experience and a respectable amount of profit. With Amulets of glory to teleport back to Edgeville after a run, about 540 orbs can be charged per hour.
68 Yes Non-combat If you have done Dream Mentor: Cast Humidify. Astral runes, Fire runes, a Water staff (or a Steam staff, which gives an unlimited supply of Fire and Water runes), and a bucket are required. Keep filling the bucket and emptying it. Doing this is convenient near Baba Yaga's rune shop. Additionally, you can cast Humidify on empty vials and sell the full vials for a modest profit. It is highly advised to purchase a Steam Battlestaff or Mystic Steam Staff to compensate the elemental runes and maximize profit.Cost to fill entire inventory of vials with Steam Staff: (157 + (70*27 = 2047); Then sell the full vials: 85*27 = 2295. An even better method to train magic efficiently would be to cast Humidify using an empty fishbowl. Fill the bowl with the spell, empty it, and repeat. The advantage of using a fishbowl is that it has a left-click empty option. Use the F4 and F7 keys on your keyboard to get to your inventory and spellbook faster. When level 82 Magic is achieved, the Magic Imbue spell will be available. Couple that with the Humidify technique to maximize experience at a very minimal loss.
68 Yes Non-combat Casting Enchant Level 5 Jewellery in the Mage Training Arena while wielding a Mud staff yields up to 60,000 experience per hour. The Pizazz points earned can be exchanged for Infinity robes, if the player also earns points in the other rooms. Keep in mind enchanting within the Enchanting Chamber provides only 75 percent of the normal experience, which reduces Enchant Level 5 Jewellery to 58.5 experience per cast.Note: The maximum amount of Pizazz points a player can earn in the Enchanting Chamber is 16,000. A mid-level mage can earn 16,000 points achieving just a few magic levels. If the player does not intend to earn points in the other rooms, he can instead talk with the Rewards Guardian upstairs to exchange the points earned just in the Enchanting Chamber for Cosmic runes. One Cosmic rune is worth five Enchantment Pizazz points.
70 Yes Combat Using Ancient Magicks is a quick—albeit expensive—way to train magic. Use the multitarget Ice Burst or Ice Barrage spells in a multicombat area, such as the Tzhaar Fight Pits or a combat ring in a player-owned house, to hit many targets at once for more experience per cast. Mummies, Rock Lobsters, and the monsters in the Ape Atoll Dungeon and Shadow Dungeon are efficient monsters to kill with multitarget Ancient spells.
80 Yes Non-combat Casting Stun repeatedly can bring very fast magic experience, but at a slightly higher cost. A Mud battlestaff is recommended for this method. A method for gaining about 200,000 experience per hour (with Sacred armour) or 100,000 per hour otherwise can be found on the Stun page.
86 Yes Non-combat Casting Plank Make on Mahogany logs is one of the fastest ways of training magic at up to around 165,000 magic experience per hour. The cost is about 4 coins per experience.
87 Yes Non-combat Casting Enchant Level 6 Jewellery in the Mage Training Arena while wielding a Lava staff yields up to 85,000 experience per hour. The Pizazz points earned can be exchanged for Infinity robes, if the player also earns points in the other rooms. Keep in mind enchanting within the Enchanting Chamber provides only 75 percent of the normal experience, which reduces Enchant Level 6 Jewellery to 72.8 experience per cast.Note: The maximum amount of Pizazz points a player can earn in the Enchanting Chamber is 16,000. A high-level mage can earn 16,000 points achieving just one or two magic levels. If the player does not intend to earn points in the other rooms, he can instead talk with the Rewards Guardian upstairs to exchange the points earned just in the Enchanting Chamber for Cosmic runes. One Cosmic rune is worth five Enchantment Pizazz points.
