Paul Cheveski was the son of Ivan and Linda Cheveski. After five years living in Canada, Paul returned to Coronation Street with his mother to stay with his grandmother Elsie Tanner. Whilst playing by the local canal, Paul fell in and was rescued by local bookie, Dave Smith. The cold water brought on pneumonia and he was placed in an oxygen tent, with Linda and Elsie keeping a bedside vigil. Ivan read about the accident in the local paper and worried over his son's health brought him back to Weatherfield. The couple were reconciled and moved to Birmingham once Paul had recovered.
