Papaya tree

The Papaya tree must be grown with the Farming skill. Level 57 farmers may plant a papaya tree seed in a plant pot that has been filled with dirt from any empty gardening patch. A gardening trowel is needed to plant the seed, then it must be watered. This action is all performed in the inventory or backpack section of the screen.

After 15 minutes or less, the planted seed will become a papaya tree sapling and can then be transferred to a Fruit tree patch. The fruit tree patch must be raked clean of weeds. Compost or Super Compost may be added prior to planting, and once planted (using a spade and trowel), the nearby farmer may be paid to watch over your tree. Payment is 10 pineapples and optionally may be noted to save you space.

A papaya tree sapling may take fourteen or more hours to mature. An Amulet of nature may be bound to the patch to provide progress on its growth. Once mature, the tree produces up to six papaya fruits at a time.

Planting the papaya tree sapling gives 72 farming experience. A healthy papaya tree, when checked, provides 6,146.6 farming experience. If the farmer does not watch the tree, then disease will grow on the tree which may be removed using secauters. However, if left alone, the diseased tree will die.

Each papaya fruit, when picked, gives 27 farming experience. Once all 6 papaya fruits have been picked, the tree will slowly produce more fruits until all 6 are available again. Information on how long the 6 take to reproduce is needed. However, the papaya fruits may be picked anytime they show on the tree.

Papaya seeds may be obtained from Pawya as well as bird's nests, Jade vine monster drops and papaya fruits are required to trap Pawya.

The Papaya tree is involved in the Ardougne Diary (hard task): it must be planted and grown in the Fruit Tree patch near the Tree Gnome Village. After this, its fruit must be picked to complete the task.

Production costs

The data in this table is based on the Grand Exchange prices of a Papaya tree seed and Papaya fruit, assuming one seed is processed to 6 papaya fruits and a gardener is paid with 10 pineapples to keep the patch disease free.

Material cost Profit/loss Profit/xp
 51,470  -40,850  -6.4

Farming all 5 Fruit tree patches will provide you with 31,902 xp, costing 204,250 coins.
