Runescape

Up to date as of February 07, 2010

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Odysseus was a panther slain by Dragonkin.

Panthers are large, cat-like creatures. In RuneScape, no panthers can currently be found.

However, in a flashback during A Tail of Two Cats, it is revealed that the hero Robert the Strong had a panther companion named Odysseus, who was killed in the Fourth Age during a fight with a Dragonkin.

Whether or not panthers continue to live in Gielinor is unknown. It is possible they were domesticated for combat in the God Wars, which may have forced them to extinction, or suffered from the climate changes that followed. They could still exist in a yet-unexplored area that may be released in a future update.

During The Fremennik Isles quest, Slug Hemligssen reveals that there is an agent known as "Operative Panther" working on a mission in Al Kharid.

One creature that somewhat resembles a panther, the nail beast, may be encountered while Temple Trekking. Nail beasts' movements are reminiscent of those of panthers. The larupias found in the Feldip Hills also closely resemble panthers.

Starwars

Up to date as of February 04, 2010

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

"Well, this is not what I expected… you're not a danger at all. You are just a mouse. A weak, scared little mouse. But that's okay, because I… I am a panther. A mean hungry panther."
Rishyk, to Deena Shan

Panthers were carnivorous feline predators that were known to hunt smaller prey that were not a danger to them, such as mice. When the fancy struck them, panthers played with their prey prior to killing and eventually eating it. Known subspecies included the Corellian sand panther and the plains panther. When Rishyk, Bannistar Station's head of security, discovered and disarmed Deena Shan during the Rebel Alliance's attack on the station, he metaphorically compared himself to a panther and her a mouse prior to his abortive attempt to kill her.

Behind the scenes

Rishyk's comparison to himself as a predator and Shan as his prey, in addition to his statement that he wanted to "play a little" before killing her led a number of readers to believe that he intended to rape her.[1][2] Writer Jeremy Barlow and editor Randy Stradley stated the dialogue was intended to convey that Rishyk was instead planning to kill Shan in a slow and torturous manner.[3] Stradley in particular, responded to the controversy with the inquiry, "What kind of cats do you guys have where you live?"[4]

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

Panther is a Maximal in the Beast Wars portion of the Generation One continuity family.
I stand up!

Panther turns into... a panther! Yeah. He's a Maximal ground soldier. Very fast on his feet, he showcases this ability by using his speed for reconnaissance.

Japanese Name: Jaguar

Beast Wars

  • Panther (McDonald's Happy Meal toy, 1996)
Part of the first McDonald's Beast Wars promotion, Panther transforms into a heavily-armed Humvee with electronic lights and sounds, plus a spring-loaded missile.
No, just kidding, he transforms into a panther with no other gimmicks. His head bears a resemblance to Cheetor's.

Trivia

  • Panther's Japanese name and brief character write-up come from a Japanese Beast Wars guidebook called the Beast Wars Perfect Book.
  • The Beast Wars Metals manga used Panther to represent the father of Beast Wars Ravage. Whether this means that Panther was the previously unseen father of Generation One Ravage or if Panther was Generation One Ravage and Beast Wars Ravage was his subsequent offspring in that continuity is uncertain. It's also possible that they were more than one generation removed, and/or that neither was the original Ravage and both were descendants and/or Panther was Ravage's father while Beast Wars Ravage was his son, but that's just getting into the realm of speculation... But it can't be ruled out, either. Ugh, Japanese continuity can give ya a serious headache!
