Ore is a quantity of rock which contains a substantial amount of minerals in combination, which can be broken down to extract and refine available geologic materials.

Ores are mined so that the valuable minerals they contain can be extracted and used. By the 24th century, Janus VI was one of the major sources of ores in the Federation. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)

In the 23rd century, ore ships visited the lithium cracking station on Delta Vega every twenty years. (TOS episode: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")

In 2266, Alfacite ore, a yellowish magentic ore from Alfa 177 was accidentally introduced into the transporter system of the USS Enterprise. The presence of the ore caused the transporters to divide life forms (including Captain James T. Kirk) into virtually identical, but intrinsically different beings. During the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, Terok Nor served as an ore processing center for minerals that had been mined from the surface. (DS9 episode: "Civil Defense")

Jewels in Final Fantasy IX are items, usable for both healing HP or dealing damage, as well as equippable as add-ons. Jewels can be equipped by anyone, and often teaches either Princess Garnet or Eiko new Summons. Also, in Garnet's case, Jewels boosts certain Summons' attack power, while in Eiko's case, they may also change the effect or element of the Summons' attack.

Battle Effects

As mentioned above, the Jewels can be used as items in battle as well as Add-ons, these uses include dealing damage, restoring HP and reviving KO'd party members. Below is a list of what each Jewel does as an item in battle.

• Amethyst - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Amethysts x 28
• Aquamarine - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Aquamarines x 20
• Dark Matter - Target takes 9,999 damage
• Diamond - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Diamonds x 36
• Emerald - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Emeralds x 44
• Garnet - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Garnets x 12
• Lapis Lazuli - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Lapis Lazuli x 100
• Moonstone - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Moonstones x 52
• Opal - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Opals x 84
• Ore - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Ore x 4
• Peridot - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Peridots x 68
• Phoenix Pinion - Revives KO
• Ruby - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Rubies x 60
• Sapphire - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Sapphires x 76
• Topaz - Restores HP equivalent to your total stock of Topaz x 92

Stat Bonuses

Three of the Jewels are useful as Add-ons as, like the traditional Add-ons, they increase your stats and/or contain elemental properties. Below is a list of these bonuses.

Friendly Enemies

On the world map, you may encounter certain Friendly Enemies that will not attack you. Rather, they ask for a particular jewel. After the jewel is given to the friendly enemy, the party is then rewarded with AP. Most of the enemies only ask for Ore, but the later ones will request rarer jewels.

Jewel Locations

• Amethyst - Can be stolen and dropped from Vivi (Mirror). Torama often drop Amethysts and are found in the Desert Palace. Agares, who reside in Ipsen's Castle, sometimes drop an Amethyst. Ring Leaders sometimes drop an Amethyst.
• Aquamarine - Can be stolen and dropped from Quina (Mirror). Can be converted from Ores in a 4:1 ration in Daguerreo.
• Dark Matter - Can be bought in the Treno auction house (Disc 3). Can be stolen from Ozma. Dropped by Ozma.
• Diamond - Can be found in Conde Petie. Can be found in the 'Sea at Dusk' Chocograph. Buy from Stiltzkin in Bran Bal.
• Emerald - One Emerald is given to you in Cleyra by the high Preist after the scared harp's strings have broken. Another is bequeathed upon the party by the Friendly Nymph, found near the Iifa Tree.
• Garnet - Can be stolen and dropped from Dagger (Mirror). Can be stolen and is often dropped from Abadon. However, Abadons only appear in Castle Pandemonium. Can also be stolen from Chimeras who are fairly common enemies in Memoria. Stilva drop Garnets and also reside in Memoria.
• Lapis Lazuli - Can be stolen and dropped from Steiner (Mirror). Ash and Behemoths, who can be found in Memoria, may drop Lapis Lazuli.
• Moonstone - There are four Moonstones in the game: Impress 100 nobles in the swordfight, trade in the four colored stones on the Conde Petie Mountain Path, buy one from Stilzkin in Alexandria on Disc 4, and the last one is given to you for giving an Emerald to the friendly Jabberwock.
• Opal - Epitaphs sometimes drop an Opal. Can be stolen and dropped from Zidane (Mirror), however since it deals 9999 damage to Zidane, it might be difficult to steal the Opal. Red Wraiths sometimes drop an Opal. Cerberus often drop Opals. Can be stolen and dropped from Mover who can only be found in Castle Pandemonium.
• Ore - Easiest jewel to find, many enemies early in the game have it to be Stolen, or drop it. Found in a few Chocograph locations. Griffins have one Ore that can be stolen. It's also the only item they possess making it an easy way to get ores.
• Peridot - Griffins always drop one Peridot and are fairly common in the forests and plains near Conde Petie. Can be stolen and dropped from Freya (Mirror).
• Pumice - Dropped by Ozma. Synethised by Hades for two Pumice Pieces.
• Pumice Piece - Dropped by Ark. Can be found in the 'Outer Island 2' Chocograph. Can be stolen from Ozma.
• Ruby - Obtained upon entering the Iifa Tree. Buy from Stiltzkin in Alexandria (Disc 4).
• Sapphire - A party of two Gnolls always drops one Sapphire, however a fight with just one Gnoll sometimes drops a Sapphire. Gnolls can be found at the Conde Petie Mountain Path. Can be stolen and dropped from Eiko (Mirror). Iron Men sometimes drop Sapphires and they reside in Memoria.
• Topaz - Can be stolen and dropped from Amarant (Mirror). Blue Grimlocks sometimes drop a Topaz. Red Vepals will sometimes drop a Topaz. Blue Wraiths sometimes drop a Topaz. Veterans, who reside in Ipsen's Castle and Memoria, can drop a Topaz.

An ore is something you can mine from rocks or mineral veins using the Mining skill. Gems, Clay, Sandstone, Granite, Limestone and essences are not really ores, but are still discussed on this page as it can be obtained by Mining. If you have the right combination you can smelt metal ores into bars. here's a list of what you need to smelt the bars:

• Bronze: 1 Copper ore and 1 Tin ore
• Iron: 1 Iron ore (50% chance of success)
• Elemental: 1 Elemental ore and 4 Coal
• Silver: 1 Silver ore
• Steel: 1 Iron ore and 2 Coal
• Gold: 1 Gold ore
• Mithril: 1 Mithril and 4 Coal
• Lunar: 1 Lunar ore
• Adamantite: 1 Adamantite ore and 6 Coal
• Runite: 1 Runite ore and 8 Coal

These items are not smelted after being mined.

Uses of ores

• Rune essence: Can be made into Runes via the Runecrafting skill.
• Clay: Can be made into Soft clay by using one of these items on it:
  • Bucket of water
  • Jug of water
  • Vial of water
  • Bowl of water

and after using one of them on it, you can use the Soft clay on a Potter's wheel and then on a Pottery oven, or make Teleport tablets with it.

• Copper ore:Use with Tin ore to make Bronze bars. Then you can use the Bronze bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools.
• Tin ore:Use with Copper ore to make Bronze bars. Then you can use the Bronze bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools.
• Limestone: Use a Chisel on it to make a Limestone brick, which can be used in Construction and also in the rebuilding of the temple in Mort'ton.
• Blurite ore: Used in The Knight's Sword quest, and after the quest, you can use it to make Blurite bolts (unf) and Blurite limbs.
• Iron ore: Can be melted into Iron bar, with only 50% chance of succes. the other half will vanish. It can also be used with 2 Coal to make Steel bar. Then you can use the Iron or Steel bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools. With the Steel bar you can also make Cannonballs.
• Elemental ore: Can be used with 4 Coal to make an Elemental bar, which is used in making Primed bar and Primed mind bar, which can be made into Elemental helmet and Elemental shield, Mind helmet and Mind shield.
• Silver ore: Can be melted into Silver bar, which can be used on a furnace, using the mould with the same name to make:
  • Unstrung symbol
  • Unstrung emblem
  • Silver sickle
  • Lightning rod
  • Demonic sigil
  • 10 Silver bolts
  • Tiara
• Daeyalt ore: Used to escape from the Meiyerditch mine. If you got caught by a Vyrewatch you have the option to go to the mine and mine 15 ores to get out.
• Coal: Used with:
  • Iron ore to make Steel bar(needs 2 Coal)
  • Mithril ore to make Mithril bar(needs 4 Coal)
  • Adamantite ore to make Adamantite bar(needs 6 Coal)
  • Runite ore to make Runite bar(needs 8 Coal)
• Pure essence: Can be made into Runes via the Runecrafting skill.
• Sandstone: Only used in Enakhra's Lament quest, to make the head for the statue.
• Gold ore: Can be melted into Gold bar to make Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets and Amulets(by having a mould in your inventory), with non-member Gems, Dragonstone, Onyx and without gem.
• Gems: Can be used with a Gold bar and a mould to make Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets and Amulets.
• Granite: Used in the Enakhra's Lament and King's Ransom quest, and the 500g piece is used in making Granite lobster
• Rubium: Can be used with guam potion (unf) to make Super Fishing Explosive, which will deal a starting 15 damage to Mogres. It can also be sold to Ezekial Lovecraft for 10 coins.
• Mithril ore: Can be used with 4 Coal to make Mithril bar. Then you can use the Mithril bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools.
• Lunar ore: You can only have 1 ore, and cannot be dropped, as it will vanish directly the same moment. It can be smelted into a Lunar bar through the Smithing skill and then made into a Lunar helm.
• Adamantite ore: Can be used with 6 Coal to make Adamantite bar. Then you can use the Adamantite bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools.
• Living Minerals: Used as bait with a Fishing Rod and 90 fishing to fish for Rocktail. Rocktail Fishing spots are only found in the Living Rock Caverns.
• Runite ore: Can be used with 8 Coal to make Runite bar. Then you can use the Runite bars on an Anvil with a Hammer in your inventory, to make Weapons, Armour or some other tools.
