New Orleans is a city in the United States of America on Earth. For centuries it was a major seaport, located as it was at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the longest river on the North American continent. The city is the namesake of the USS New Orleans and the New Orleans class of Starfleet starships.
Large sections of the city were destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but New Orleans was eventually rebuilt to its former glory.
