Necron is the final boss of Final Fantasy IX, fought at the Hill of Despair. While your party will have been weakened by the Ultima spell cast by Trance Kuja, the four members of the party selected to fight Necron will be recharged by the other comrades (Example: you choose Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, and Steiner to fight Necron, Their HP and MP will be recharged by Freya, Quina, Eiko, and Amarant before the battle starts.) Also, you do not have to use Zidane for the final battle.

Strategy

This is it, your final boss. Strictly speaking, he is not as powerful as Ozma, but still should not be underestimated. Necron has a plethora of magic spells, including Firaga, Blizzaga, and Thundaga, which hit for around 1,500+ damage on all your characters. Aside from that, he can also cast Holy and Flare, which hits one character for around 3,000 damage. Necron has the distinction of being able to perform three actions per turn, putting the party at a major disadvantage, especially if he casts Grand Cross, since Neutron Ring follows immediately after.

Necron will buff himself with Protect and Shell, and will cast Curaga to heal around 2,500 points of damage should he feel threatened. Like most final bosses, he has an attack to bring one character to 1 HP: Blue Shockwave. Necron's Neutron Ring deals around 4,000+ damage to all your characters. His most devastating attack, Grand Cross, functions similarly to Malboro's Bad Breath, only it inflicts every status ailment in the game, including Heat/Freeze.

Before fighting Necron, you will have the opportunity to check your equipment one last time. It is highly recommended that every one of your characters has Clear Headed, Body Temp, Antibody, and Jelly abilities to block some of Grand Cross's negative effects, such as Petrify, Confuse, etc. You can also equip some other supportive abilities, like HP+, Auto-Regen, and Auto-Haste to increase your advantages.

It is advised that you equip the "Bird Killer" and "MP attack" abilities to increase your damage inflict to Necron. Make sure some of your characters are on Trance so they can deal heavy damage to him. Mimic Necron by casting Protect and Shell to guard against his Neutron Ring and elemental magic. Freya's Dragon Crest, Vivi's Doomsday, Zidane's physical strikes and/or Dyne, and Steiner's Climhazzard should be your powerhouse attackers. Amarant's Aura is also an excellent choice to use as it casts Regen and Auto-Life. Just heal often and beware of Necron's attacks and you should be fine. Don't hesitate to use your Elixirs, this is the final battle.
