Group Marshall Nathan of the Tenth Sontaran Battle Brigade was one of two Sontarans that planned to destroy the Doctor's TARDIS with a vitrox bomb.

He and the Sontaran Turner encountered the Doctor, Tegan Jovanka and Gareth Jenkins and recognized Gareth as the Earth Defense Force leader who would defeat them in 2001. He was destroyed by Gareth when he pressed a button on the TARDIS console and shot pressured steam at the Sontarans. (A Fix with Sontarans)

Nathan was a male Human who lived in the 24th century. In the 2370s, he worked as a chef at Sisko's Creole Kitchen.

In 2372, Nathan served Benjamin Sisko and Jake Sisko gumbo when they arrived at the restaurant. Nog would often order his usual of tube grubs from Nathan. (DS9 episode: "Homefront")

Pasta boudin was apparently Nathan's favorite dish of those that he served. (ST reference: Star Trek: Federation Travel Guide)

Nathaniel "Nathan" Vargas[1] is a citizen of Megaton and husband of Manya. He believes all the Enclave propaganda he hears on the radio (even though he doesn't have a radio in his house), and openly praises them. Nathan promises the Lone Wanderer that although he is considered by many to be a senile old man, that "things will be different when the Enclave gets here". He holds a tab at Moriarty's Saloon of 8 caps.

Contents

Background

Nathan was born in 2212.[1] He ran a caravan route for over 30 years with his wife, Manya. It was during this period that he became obsessed with the Enclave.[1]

Notes

  • Nathan will be oblivious to the Enclave's arrival (even though it is proclaimed on both radio stations) and cannot be told about it. His dialogue options remain the same.
  • He later appears in the Enclave's Raven Rock base in one of the cells next to yours, warning "They're not who they say they are, get out while you can, before they get you too!" You cannot make him follow you and attempting to talk to him will simply result in him repeating his warning. It is highly likely that he will be killed during the escape from Raven Rock. His body will have the key for Nathan and Manya's House. In the event that he does survive the escape from Raven Rock, he can be found in Megaton, however he says nothing about his escape and his dialogue options about supporting the Enclave are the same as before. It can be assumed this is due to the developers not adding new dialogue.
  • If you do not open the cell where Nathan is, you will still find him alive and well in Megaton after escaping Raven Rock.
  • If you, or another power kills Nathan, he will often mutter 'Manya' (His wife) as he falls to the ground
  • It may also be amusing to give him Enclave Power Armor or Tesla Armor through reverse-pickpocketing him
  • When asked "why do you support the Enclave?" Nathan will say, "Because American is the greatest country on Earth." Even though he says America while speaking.
  • Nathan has the same last name as Brotherhood of Steel Paladin Vargas, It's possible they are related but there is no other evidence to support this theory.
  • In the quest Take it Back! near the Jefferson Memorial when the large group of Enclave Soldiers come to attack there is a Enclave Officer that looks exactly like Nathan Vargas. It's possible that he was able to join the Enclave After the Lone Wanderer escaped Raven Rock especially because he just like the lone wanderer being prisoned 1 or 2 cells left of your own.

Appearances

Nathan appears only in Fallout 3.

Nathan was a tail section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815. He was suspected by Ana Lucia of being one of the Others, due to his secretive behavior (which was probably simply due to his personality), and was killed when his neck was broken by the Other named Goodwin.

Before the crash

Nathan claimed he was in the tail section of the airplane at the time of the crash. Little is known about his life before boarding the plane, except that he stated he was on a company retreat in Australia and stayed behind to 'sightsee', and claimed to be from Canada, like Ethan. ("The Other 48 Days")

On the Island

Nathan in the tiger pit. ("The Other 48 Days")

Nathan was not seen after the crash until nightfall (Day 1) after Eko was attacked by the Others. Nathan was one of the tail section survivors who, along with Cindy, wanted to stay on the beach, for he believed it was safer than venturing into the jungle.

Ana Lucia began to grow suspicious of Nathan and came to believe that he might have been on the Island before the crash, because of (among other things) his lengthy trips into the jungle, supposedly to take a bathroom break. He also seemed rebellious to Ana Lucia, the self-declared leader of the tailies. None of the other tailies argued with Ana Lucia, probably because they were also suspicious of Nathan. Ana Lucia's suspicion that Nathan was "one of them" led her to throw him into the pit.

After Ana Lucia promised to begin cutting Nathan's fingers off the next day, Goodwin freed Nathan and then killed him by breaking his neck. He hid the body in the jungle. Goodwin later defended his actions by claiming Nathan was "not a good person". He also suggested that, if she tortured Nathan and he still didn't confess, Ana Lucia might finally start to believe he was telling the truth, and look for other suspects, putting Goodwin at risk of being discovered. ("The Other 48 Days")

  • What happened to his body?
  • Why was Nathan so secretive; why didn't he defend himself?
  • Why was he "not a good person" (as Goodwin said)?
  • Apart from going to the bathroom, why else was Nathan out in the jungle for 2 hours?
