Talk to Explorer Jack

File:Explorer_Jack.png

  • Ask him how to get to the land of snow, the phrase 'Ectosum Glissendo' will be seen (this is the same for everyone).

File:Isdor.png

  • Speak to him and he will teleport the player to the Land of Snow.

Note: Players are not allowed to teleport with their own snow imp.

Icy Maze Caves of Extreme Slipperiness

Note: Players are also able to move diagonally on ice.
Note: This guide does NOT work for everyone, some people have encountered puzzle rooms in a different order.
Note: If the puzzle is too difficult to solve, either teleport out and then come back or log out (this will allow to begin from the entrance of the room) and start over.

Note: Crafting 2,000 experience bonus for clearing wall cave maze room. (30 crafting needed, bring hammer and chisel)
Note: Agility 10,000 experience bonus for climbing roots in a cave maze room. (55 agility, and membership needed)
Note: Woodcutting 20,000 experience bonus for clearing wall next to final entrance (on platform) before final cave maze room. (80 woodcutting needed, bring hatchet)

Entrance

  • To get to the caves, an 'Ice game' will need to be played. The player will slide around and only stop when an obstacle is reached. To get to the cave from the start, directions are as follows:
  • South
  • East
  • North

Room 2
Room 3

Room 5
Room 6, now it gets a little more complicated. Click the image for more instructions.

Second Cavern (Crafting cavern)

  • When the next cave is entered, this will be puzzle room 2. This can be solved by the following steps;.Note: In this room, the etching needed to be cleared to gain 2,000 Crafting experience is on the ramp. Players will need a crafting level of thirty and a hammer and chisel to gather stalagmites on cave wall.

Fourth Cavern (Agility Cavern)

  • After this, the player will enter a fourth cave room. Following this, it is easy (it is possible to climb the roots onto the risen platform if you are a member and study the wall for 10,000 agility experience; Players will need Level 55 Agility to do so);

Sixth Cavern

  • For the sixth puzzle room the first objective is to move east and enter the next room. A Yeti inside screams and the sound pushes you back to the starting point in the sixth room. Now, push the two blocks into the niches in the ledge along the north wall. (The blocks cannot be moved before the yeti's scream loosens them. If the player just keeps re-entering the yeti's room without putting the blocks in place, from the third consecutive try, players are prompted to push the blocks in room 6.) One solution to the room is this:
  • East (exits room to next; yeti's scream pushes the player back to the starting point)

  • Players will end up at your starting point in the sixth room. Then exit back to the fifth room. (If you try to enter the seventh room directly, the Yeti there will still scream and force you back.)
Entry

Seventh Cavern (and Woodcutting Cavern)

  • After pushing the two snow blocks into place in the sixth room, make your way back into the fifth room and go to the crevice (North, West, North, East). Go through the crevice, and enter the sixth room on an ice platform along the northern edge. The two blocks you pushed into place close gaps that you could not cross!. Go east across the platform to the crevice in the eastern wall. South of the crevice are roots that can be cleared with a hatchet at level 80 Woodcutting and studied to gain 20,000 woodcutting experience. Squeeze through the eastern crevice into the seventh room. Players will be on an ice platform north-west of the yeti.
Shouting at the yeti
Still alive, but not dangerous any more.
  • Study the nearby wall. The option on the pipe should now say 'shout-in'. Click this to shout down the pipe. The yeti should faint.
  • Squeeze back through both crevices and go back to the final room (west, south-east, east). Simply walk east into the yeti room. Pick up the stones.
  • Backtrack through all of the caves, or alternatively, right click and select 'Exit-cave' on archway.
  • An easy way to backtrack is to quicky logout and log back in, as this places you at the exit archway of the room that you were just in.

Meeting 3 Funny Ice Imps

Do not teleport until the imps transform the stones!

  • Let the imps enchant the "riches" (now revealed to be extremely stinky yeti dung). It will turn into enchanted stones.
  • Head back to Explorer Jack (it is safe to teleport after they have been enchanted).
  • Choose "Carry on with the imps prank" or "Tell the truth about what the stones are". Both choices will yield the same results, eventually; they only affect how the conversation will continue.

Quest Complete!

If players go back to Explorer Jack after 15 minutes or so (or after logging out), he will give you 5000 coins: your share of the money from selling the yeti dung to a witch. He also says he's been to the cave and "Sliding is great fun. You should go back there sometime."

While the directions explained above are the simplest ways of navigating the caves, you can often move diagonally, which opens up a lot of path choices, making it much easier.

Trivia

  • During the 2008 Christmas Event, you could ask one of the Head Snow Imps to Teleport you to the Land of Snow as opposed to Isidor.
  • On the day the quest was released the spoilers read: The rewards are kept in an icy room, and we still haven't figured out how to get across it unscathed.
  • The Spiked Boots from Desert Treasure do not help you to walk on the ice.
  • If you try to shout the pipe again you will get a message saying "The yeti has already passed out. You wouldn't want to wake him up again."
  • No summoning familiars or pets can enter the caves. This includes the snow imps.
  • You cannot earn Agility experience on free worlds, even if you have 55 Agility.
  • The main page banner during Christmas time was based on the last part of Myths of the White Lands.
  • There was a glitch where it was possible to walk/run freely on the ice. This was possible by taking a step off of solid ground and performing the Give Thanks emote as soon as your character would step foot on the ice.
  • Yet another glitch occurred where a player could walk/run freely on the ice without sliding. Players needed to have a kite from Diango to manage this. When about to touch the ice, they could click on the kite as fast as they could. Players could now walk/run freely on the ice. This glitch has been fixed by Jagex.
  • There remains a glitch when, after being teleported back from Maggie, from Swept Away, you are teleported onto the ice, and are able to walk freely.
A player walking on ice.
  • Myths of the White Lands is the first quest since While Guthix Sleeps, and is the first quest past the 270 quest points required for the WGS quest.
  • After completing the quest, and talk to Explorer Jack he will talk about the experience in the Ice Caves. Players can get Crafting, Agility and Woodcutting exp. (Level 30 Crafting, Level 55 Agility and Level 80 Woodcutting are needed to get all the rewards) Agility boosts can be used to obtain the experience in the cave.
  • There was a glitch where if you followed someone walking freely on the ice, you can't move or log out until the person you followed brought you near normal ground.
  • Another glitch remains in the Land of Snow (outside of the caves). While you are standing in the patch of snow next to the portal, a square chunk of the cliff side(the one right next to the portal) will disappear.
Snow Patch Glitch
  • Another glitch occurs when you attempt to destroy the lamp received from the quest. It shows the icon and under it is "Members object", even though the lamp is available to free-to-play.
Members object
  • When players push the ice blocks into the slots, they can slide into the actual blocks. On standard detail, players' legs can be seen and it looks like they are enclosed in ice.
A player performing the Ice Block Glitch in standard detail.
A player performing the Ice Block Glitch in High Detail.
  • On PVP worlds, the ice cave is considered a PVP zone, however nobody can see you and can therefore not attack you, with the new PVP system, bringing 25003 coins into the caves and just sliding around will get you better PVP drops later.
  • If one logs out on a PVP world in the ice cave, and log back in, if your computer is fast enough, you can see yourself briefly at the cave entrance being teleported to your last place.
  • Sometimes, if ground decoration is turned off in HD, a glitch will occur where instead of the textures on the ice staying frozen, they will be moving around, the same way the water does in HD.
  • When the player returns to the cave after the quest is complete, the examine text of yeti will change again to: "The yeti sleeps like a big baby."
  • Free players that have started Myths of the White Lands can still complete it at any time, regardless of the duration of time that has passed since they have started.
  • Free players that have completed the quest are still able to teleport to the Land of Snow via Isidor.
  • When showing the quest on the world map, it actually shows it in the wrong place. This is due to the position of the quest starting point, which is underground.
  • As of 9 November 2009, a little more info to the latter part of the Myths of the White Lands caverns was included.
  • Some Free-to-Play players who made their account after this quest was made members only, could start and progress through the whole quest, like any other quest, and even get the rewards.
  • For an extra reward, talk to Explorer Jack after 5 minutes of completing the quest, and he will tell you that a witch came and bought the yeti droppings. He will give you 5000 coins as an extra reward.
