Mythril (ミスリル Misuriru) is a valuable metal found in the Final Fantasy series. It can be crafted into many pieces of equipment, like swords, armor and gauntlets. The name seems to be derived from a metal called Mithril, appearing in J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional universe, featured in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". In fact, in Final Fantasy VI, it is called Mithril. It is a possibility that it is intended to be "Mithril" in English, but was changed to "Mythril" after Final Fantasy VI to lessen the chances of a copyright lawsuit from Christopher Tolkien, who is infamously very litigious.

Final Fantasy II

The party needs to find Mythril in order to make into weapons for the rebel army. However, it is kept in the Semitt Falls and is guarded by a Sergeant of the Palamecian army.

Final Fantasy III

The Mythril Mines are found in the small town of Kazus. Initially everyone is a ghost, but after defeating Djinn, the town is restored and the shops sell Mythril Equipment.

Final Fantasy IV

Although the Mythril mineral is of no particular importance, there is a town called Mythril, where they just so happen to sell Mythril equipment.

Final Fantasy VI

Mythril items in this game are average as far as stats are concerned.

Final Fantasy VII

Mythril is used to make some equipment in Final Fantasy XI. It can be forged into ingots but it is perhaps mostly used for coins in Aht Urhgan. Mythril coins are worth 1/5 of 1 Imperial Gold peice, or about twice what Silver is worth, and therefore ten times what Bronze is worth.
