Unmarked quest: Murphy's Bombing Run

Main article: Murphy's Bombing Run

Murphy is working on an improved version of the drug Jet, known as Ultrajet. However, he needs your help with one of the ingredients: Sugar Bombs.

  • If you berate Murphy in a dialogue he will end the conversation. Then you start another conversation with him and ask him about the sugar bombs, once the conversation ends he and Barrett will turn hostile.
  • If you sell armor to Murphy, such as Combat Armor or Power Armor, he is likely to wear it. This is useful if you wish to pick-pocket his glasses or the Wasteland Surgeon Outfit that he is initially wearing.
  • Despite the fact Murphy is manufacturing additives to an already addictive and deadly narcotic, killing him results in a drop in karma.

Murphy appears only in Fallout 3.

  • Sometimes it will take a few seconds for the game to register that you've given Murphy any or all of your Sugar Bombs. You'll say "Here's all the Sugar Bombs I've got." but you won't receive any caps nor will they be removed from your inventory. Trying this a few times, as well as waiting for up to 30 seconds before speaking to Murphy again, seems to get it to work. (confirmed all platforms)
  • Sometimes it may seem that Murphy has completely disappeared. This is rare, but sometimes he is standing right next to the door of their little laboratory, and when you open it he can get pinned behind the door. This can be fixed by simply closing the door again. (PS3 Confirmed)
  • Occasionally, Murphy and his partner will randomly turn hostile against your followers, though not towards you, unless you attempt to assist your follower. (Confirmed on the Xbox 360 and PS3 with Fawkes, RL-3 and Star Paladin Cross)

A detailed image of Murphy.

Murphy is a salty old sea dog who lives in Port Khazard. He can be found on the north pier at the east side next to the red star File:Minigame icon.png mini-game icon. He runs the Fishing Trawler minigame, and also makes and replaces fishbowl helmets and diving apparatus, primarily used for the Pirate Pete section of Recipe for Disaster and later for The Great Brain Robbery.

He can be contacted with the NPC Contact spell to find out about when the next trip of the fishing trawler will be. He also is the NPC that you can obtain a sextant from for clue scrolls.

  • Even if you're a girl, Murphy will call you "son".
  • Murphy breaks the fourth wall, by saying "Game Magic."
