Dr Who

Up to date as of January 31, 2010

From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

The Minotaur was a creature from Greek mythology, said to have the head of a bull and the body of a man.

The Doctor and Zoe encountered the Minotaur in the Land of Fiction. It vanished when they denied its existence. (DW: The Mind Robber)

The Doctor later learned that the myth of the Minotaur was real during a trip to Atlantis. The creature was formerly a member of Dalios's court, a great athlete who desired the strength of a bull and a long life in which to use it. Kronos granted him his wish, and the creature was made guardian of the Kronos Crystal until the Doctor defeated it. (DW: The Time Monster)

The Greek hero Theseus was renowned for fighting the Minotaur. The Doctor claimed to have given Theseus the ball of string he used to find his way around the labyrinth in which the Minotaur resided. (DW: The Creature from the Pit)

It is unknown if this is the same Minotaur from Atlantis or a different one.

The Doctor and Romana encountered a hostile beret-wearing Minotaur named Taureau in the catacombs of Paris during the turn of the millenium. Taureau worked with a human-looking mime who lured people into the catacombs through portals and then into the center of the maze where Taureau lived. They would eat raw anyone who could not answer Taureau's riddle. The Doctor stole Taureau's key and he and Romana exited the trap through another portal, which caused the Minotaur's sanctum to self-destruct. (IDW: The Forgotten)

Extraterrestrial life forms which resembled Minotaurs include the Nimon and the Tauride. (DW: The Horns of Nimon, DWBIT: Minor Trouble)

Performer:

In Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a creature that was part man and part bull. It dwelt in the Labyrinth, which was an elaborate maze-like construction built for King Minos of Crete and designed by the architect Daedalus to hold the Minotaur. The Minotaur was eventually killed by Theseus.

The Minotaur was featured in the The StoryTeller: Greek Myths adaptations of "Daedalus and Icarus" and "Theseus and the Minotaur".

From GuildWiki

A Forest Minotaur running in the wild.

Minotaurs in Guild Wars are large bulls with a slight humanoid touch. They have the head, torso and hind-quarters of a bull but with two large human arms. They run on their hands and legs like oxen (with clenched fists), but they occasionally stand on their hind legs and walk around.

Minotaurs are brutally strong, very fast and enjoy running like nothing else. Their patrols will be seen dashing across the landscape with great speed. In an area infested with minotaurs, players would do well to examine their patrols quickly and keep an eye on their radar, as they can blindside a party easily. All minotaurs in the game seem to suffer from limited intelligence; after they have been hit, they take a few moments to start attacking. Sometimes a player will attack them and they will continue running for a bit (often activating their stance as you come into range), stop, and come back to retaliate.

In addition to "true" minotaurs, the minotaur family is suspected to include other forms of monstrous cattle encountered in the Far Shiverpeaks.

For the summoning familiar, see: Bronze minotaur, Iron minotaur, Steel minotaur, Mithril minotaur, Adamant minotaur, Rune minotaur.

Minotaurs are found on level one of the Stronghold of Security. They drop the right skull half, the first piece of the Skull sceptre. Many players train Ranged on these monsters, as they almost always drop iron arrows, and they are close in proximity to a barricade that rangers can attack behind.
