From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Midnight Madness was an event held across the United States at midnight, April 2, 2005, in which Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith toys and merchandise were officially released. Vendors that participated in Midnight Madness included Wal-Mart, Target and Toys R Us.

Midnight Madness can also refer to the midnight premiere of a Star Wars movie, the most recent being the immensely popular Revenge of the Sith. Many fans dress up as characters from the saga, most choosing stormtroopers or Jedi, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and will wait in a line for over a day, if not longer. The advent of online ticket purchasing has reduced the number of people who wait in line to get a ticket, but rather to get a good seat.

Midnight Madness was also held in 2008 for the release of The Clone Wars movie. Fans across the world flocked to Toys R Us at midnight to get their hands on the new Clone Wars and The Legacy Collection items. The big item was the Big Millennium Falcon (BMF) and the large AT-TE Vehicles.
