Genre Description

Heavy metal, usually abbreviated to metal is a bit of a blanket term for many different flavors of music, Metal is most known by its loudness, distortion, intricacy and often its lyrical themes of alienation, war, the occult, myth, and other theatrical themes. Early metal acts had a lot of base in a neo-Blues sound, though as metal progressed, prog seemed to take over as a larger influence on the sound. Metal was most popular in the 1980s thanks to the glam metal scene, which had a considerable presence on the radio and MTV. Glam metal, or rock borrowing metal's instrumental sound and song structures, often introduced people into actual metal. In the 1990s metal still remained popular, and often more underground -- though a form of metal, called nu-metal, had re-emerged into the mainstream, one that is a bit more pop like and also borrows from rap. In the 90s many metal artists emerged from the saturation of grunge artists, especially in the USA. They set out to distance themselves from the grunge image, too popish and one which many bands at the time were copying.

Metals are a group of chemical elements defined by the ability to form metallic bonds between metal atoms. Metals are typically lustrous, malleable, hard and conduct heat and electricity. Metals can be combined with other elements or other metals to make different substances called alloys.

Metal ores were commonly extracted in mining operations as they were useful materials in construction and ornamentation. Metals were amongst the substances in the diet of the Horta and were easily dissolved by their digestive acids. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)

In 2369 the unique metals in Worf's baldric and Ro Laren's earring were useful in locating them when they was involved in a shuttlecraft accident, as the distinct signatures of the metals allowed them to be more detectable in sensor scans. (TNG comic: "Light of the Day")

In RuneScape, metals are elements that are malleable, hard, and conduct magic in most cases (though metals such as elemental metal do not follow this rule) . Most of them are found in metal ores. Dragon, Black and White aren't.These ores are smelted into metal bars and used to make Weapons, Armour, Crossbows, arrowtips or some tools like Nails.
