The Agenda

Created using Superboy's DNA, Match was made to serve "the Agenda", a secret organization specializing in creating clone armies. Agent Amanda Spence was able to kidnap Superboy and the Agenda used his DNA to create the clone Match. Match was given implanted memories, like Superboy, but they included a greater host of information that Superboy did not have. He also had improved durability as well as greater control over his powers. In fact, it is believed by some[citation needed] that the host of data he was given helped him hone his powers.

In the resulting battle between the two clones, Superboy managed to come out on top and the reactor holding the Agenda's compound together exploded, destroying the base. Match was left alone and ailing.

Some time later, the Agenda kidnapped Superboy again and took over Project Cadmus. When the Agenda kidnapped Superboy, Match took his place in Young Justice. At this time, Project Cadmus was also infiltrated by several clones loyal to the Agenda. Eventually, Superboy freed himself and joined the fight against Match and the Agenda to free Cadmus.

During Joker's Last Laugh, after being poisoned with Joker venom, Match returned to infiltrate and terrorize Young Justice disguised to look like Superboy. While Superboy was away, Match was at Young Justice headquarters with Empress, Secret, Arrowette, and Wonder Girl in the hopes of killing them in a comical manner. While the Jokerized Match was unable to keep his plans secret from the girls, they simply believed he was Superboy pretending to be a Jokerized Match to try to lighten the mood after Robin and Impulse both quit earlier that day. Match left however after accidentally making Wonder Girl confess her love for Superboy, causing Match to develop feelings for her as well.

Titans East

The criminal mercenary Deathstroke has begun forming Titans East, a team created explicitly to take down the Teen Titans. Though he is a powerful physical asset to the team, Match's presence is more of a psychological ploy, due to Superboy's death during the Infinite Crisis event. Deathstroke is counting on Match's resemblance to Superboy, enhanced by changing his costume to match Superboy's last costume, to unbalance Robin, Superboy's best friend and the Titans' leader, and Wonder Girl, Superboy's girlfriend and the Titans' most powerful member.

Match's first appearance in Teen Titans #43 shows that both his mind and body have begun to rot away, making him behave more like a normal Bizarro clone, even going so far as to speak in contradictions. He appears to still have feelings for Wonder Girl, as he claims "I hate Wonder Girl." Following that, in Teen Titans # 44, Wonder Girl wakes up in what seems to be a replica of the Fortress of Solitude in Slade's Titans Tower in New York. She sees what appears to be Superboy on a throne, but it is, in fact, Match, who claims "You so ugly when you sleep, me hate to watch you", continuing to speak in opposite logic as his body and mind deteriorate.

As he attempts to force his feelings on Wonder Girl, Match is unexpectedly attacked by Robin and Batgirl (who was freed from Slade's influence). His body appears less invulnerable than before, as Robin's throwing R's managed to cut into the clone's back. Wonder Girl, still furious at Match's very existence begins an all out assault against the clone, only to still end up defeated along with her other teammates by Match and the other Titans East. When Nightwing, Donna Troy, Flash (Bart Allen) and Beast Boy arrive with Cyborg, Raven and Duela Dent, the unified Titans battle against the Titans East one last time. Match is defeated when Wonder Girl reflects his heat-vision back at him with her braclets after which Jericho possesses his unconscious body.

Unfortunately, due to Match's Kryptonian powers, he has proven too dangerous to turn over to conventional authorities. As such, Jericho continues to control Match's body, which proves difficult for him after a point. At one point Match manages to break free of Jericho's control and begins destroying Titans Tower. Wonder Girl however manages to sooth his aggressive nature by saying soothingly 'I'm here'. Match immediately becomes submissive to Jericho's control again.

Appearance

Originally, Match's physical appearance was practically identical to Superboy's, save for white hair and pale eyes (in comparison to Superboy's black hair and blue eyes) and a "brand" of the Agenda's logo on the left side of his chest. This logo was also on his original costume, two intertwined double helixes (most likely to represent DNA) that form a shape akin to three circles. Match's look is currently very similar to a Bizarro clone of Superboy. Like Superboy after his redesign, Match has jeans and black t-shirt. However, the shirt has several tears or holes and the "S" shield is reversed, like Bizarro's. His body exhibits extreme skin calcification, a trait he shares with Bizarro. Due to genetic damage which accumulated over time, his mental and speech patterns currently resemble those of a Bizarro.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Match has exhibited powers similar to Superboy, but supposedly had greater control. These powers include tactile telekinesis which can mimic Superman's powers of flight and super-strength, but can also be used to disassemble machinery. Occasionally, he has also displayed the ability to create blasts of energy from his eyes. Although Superboy eventually began to develop real Kryptonian powers from exposure to Earth's yellow sun, it is unclear if Match has developed such powers as well. It appears that Match's cloned body and mind are slowly rotting away over time, leaving the full extent of his powers questionable. His body appears to be less shielded or invulnerable, as Robin and Batgirl managed to cause him pain by striking him with Robin's throwing R's.

History

Ben Hamill was a mutant teenager who attended the Xavier Institute. When his pyrokinetic powers first manifested, Hammil accidentally set fire to the park in his hometown. After being enrolled at the Institute, Hammil was assigned to the Paragons training squad under the tutelage of Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair). When it was revealed that Sinclair had been in a romantic relationship with a student, Josh Foley (Elixir), she abruptly departed from the school, leaving the Paragons without an adviser. Ultimately, former New Mutant, Magma stepped in to become the Paragons' mentor.

Ben

Though hot-tempered, Hamill is a natural leader, and consequently, was named as the field leader for his squad. Following the events of House of M, only 27 of the school's students retained their powers. All squads were dissolved, and the remaining students were merged into one group. In X-Men: The 198 Files, Hammil and his fellow former Paragons Trance, Wolf Cub, and Pixie were revealed to be among the handful of still-powered Xavier students.

Match, along with several of his fellow students, was sucked down into the realm of Limbo. When attacked by demons, he quickly joined the fight, showing a great amount of control over his powers, killing several demons while trying to protect Pixie and Blindfold.

Following the events of Messiah Complex and the disbanding of the X-men, Match reappeared with the rest of the X-men in San Francisco in the Manifest Destiny series.

Match was later seen putting out fires with Angel started by rioting over the anti-mutant reproductive legislation, "Proposition X", being pushed by the anti-mutant organization "Humanity Now!" After the riots subsided, the Dark X-Men declared that there would be a new curfew where Mutants and Non-mutants alike couldn't' be out after dark. Match was later seen within Avalanche's bar, with fellow student Hellion and other mutants. Angry at the new rule, the group decided to cause a scene after curfew hours for all the world to see. As Match spread fire throughout Union Square, the Dark X-Men came to arrest the trouble-making mutants.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Match
Pyrokinesis: enabling him to produce and manipulate flame. In addition, he is seemingly immune to fire and high temperatures. As a side effect of his powers, thermal production causes his skin to glow with heat and constantly radiates flame from his scalp. His flames also give him the ability of flight.

Abilities

Skilled team leader

Notes

  • Ben's impulsive nature and fiery temper has led some to wonder if it is due to his power.

Match was one of three members of Biff Tannen's high school gang in the year 1955. He earned the label, 'Match' due to the fact that he had a match sticking out of his mouth almost all the time. (Back to the Future)

Contents

Original timeline

Match, together with his compatriots Skinhead and 3D, would be antagonists for Marty McFly during both of his temporal incursions in 1955. At one point they locked Marty McFly, who was on a quest to recover Gray's Sports Almanac from Biff, in the trunk of a car only to be chased off by members of the band playing at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance. (Back to the Future Part II)

Biffhorrific Hill Valley

In the alternate reality created by the actions of the 2015 Biff, Match would be employed as a bodyguard for the CEO of BiffCo. He would still sport the omnipresent match in his mouth and often wore a white cowboy hat. As a bodyguard, he, Skinhead, and 3D were the close member's of Biff's inner circle. (Back to the Future Part II)

Encountering the Voyager away team

As one of Biff's closest associates, Match would be among the first to be made aware of Armus and was nearly killed when he inadvertently insulted him. Armus generated tremendous telepathic sensations of severe agony as a result of the insult and was only stopped by Biff at the last minute.

He, Skinhead, and 3D would capture Marty McFly when he was on a survey mission on a remote world. The three members of the gang would be key players in Biff's schemes across the multiverse. (Star Trek: Voyager - Dark Realm)

From Traveller Wiki - Science-Fiction Adventure in the Far future

Originally developed as a cutting tool by research engineer at Ling Standard Metals, the tiny, convenient match has seen a variety of uses, most notably (unfortunately) as a burglar's implement. Its size makes it quite handy, as it is portable enough to carry in a pocket, yet powerful enough to burn a hole in the hardest metals. To achieve this effect, it utilizes a pinhead-sized superconductor filament, connected to a ceramic focusing element.

Briefly, electrical current from the batteries in the unit causes a thermal buildup in the focusing element, using comparatively little energy to create a micro fine point of intense heat. This device is extremely energy efficient.

A match is slightly larger than a standard screwdriver, and of roughly the same shape. It has a blunt, thick handle and a protruding point. When its blunt end is twisted clockwise, its point glows white-hot and is capable of cutting through most materials. The user's hand is protected from the heat by an insulating coating on the device, although a glove should be worn to keep the user from being scorched by whatever material he is cutting. It is capable of 30 seconds total cumulative use before its filament burns out.

Filaments are disposable and are sold in packs of five spikes for Cr300. The handle, which houses the batteries must be recharged after 30 seconds of use. The unit costs Cr2,000

Because it is often used as a burglar's tool, a match cannot usually be obtained on high law level worlds.

From Yu-Gi-Oh!

A Match consists of 3 Duels.

The first player to win 2 of the 3 Duels is declared the winner.

In some tournaments if the outcome of the 3 duels results in a Draw Sudden Death rules are introduced.

Some cards, like Victory Dragon, can end a match in one attack. This is called a Match-ending attack.
