There is more information available on this subject at Marble on the English-language Wikipedia.

Marble is a non-foliated metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone, composed mostly of calcite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate, CaCO3). It is extensively used for sculpture, as a building material, and in many other applications.

The UNSC uses marble as a building material, for example: the Côte d'Azur Museum of Natural History is constructed mainly of marble.[1] The UNSC also uses marble for various other decorative purposes. When using it as a building material, it is one of the more expensive materials. Iron and Steel are two of the lesser expensive materials.

The Covenant also use marble as a decorative material, such as the black marble used to make the San 'Shyuum cleric's pestle and mortar.[2] Marble is known for it's hardness, durability, and glossy properties.

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Marble blocks are used in the Construction skill. They can be bought in Keldagrim from the Stonemason for 325,000 coins. Players can begin using marble blocks once they reach 41 Construction; the first item that can be made is a Mini Obelisk. Marble blocks are also the most common high level building object needed in a Player Owned House.

Unlike Limestone bricks, a player can not make them.
