Magicks are the Ivalice Alliance spelling of magic spells, appearing faithfully in Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.
Magick is generally differentiated from other abilities by almost always requiring MP and being repelled by the Reflect status.

Learning new spells has similarities to the systems found in the original Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy III, and Final Fantasy V. The player will have to find Magick shops or traveling merchants, who sell Magicks, in order to buy the appropriate spell. Like in Final Fantasy V, it is only necessary to buy the Magick spell once for it to become available to the entire party. But being available to the party, and being able to be used are two different matters, and much like the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X, the ability must be "bought". While the Sphere Grid system used special spheres to activate corresponding ability/spell/skill, the License System uses License Points, which are gained by defeating enemies, in order to buy the License for "equipping" the Magick. Each character must buy their own license, in order to use a Magick spell.
In the International Zodiac Job System version, Magick is limited to its corresponding Job classes. For example, of the twelve Job classes, most of the White Magicks can be used by the White Mage Job class. while Arcane Magicks can only be used by the Red Mage Job class.
Black Magick, White Magick, and Time Magick exist in Revenant Wings, each the spell class of the Black Mage, White Mage, and Time Mage, respectively. Also in respective order, the characters that can learn a majority of the spells from these magick classes are Kytes, Penelo, and Ashe.
Unlike Final Fantasy XII, magick in this game is learned exclusively by leveling up.
All classes of Magick, like every other Job skillset in this game, have spells that are attainable by the acquisition and spending of Job Points.
All five divisions of Magick from Final Fantasy XII are present in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, with the addition of Blue Magick, Red Magick, and High Magick. The game follows the same system as its predecessor, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, where Magick is learned through equipment and the earning of AP.
Magick is an ancient form of mystical arts in which the user, through various spells and incantations, can achieve a wide range of things ranging from controlling the elements to controlling others.
Little is known of the true origins of magick. It is known to have originated from the planet now known as Hollow Bastion. The ancient inhabitants of the once inhabited world were masters of the mystic arts. They used their powers for the good of all, even going so far as to teach others to master the skill.
At some point, the inhabitants of Hollow Bastion, then Radiant Garden, became corrupt and decadant and began to use their powers for their own personal gain. They launched an offensive that sent the Galaxy into a terrible war. Despite their overwhelming superiority and advantage the armies of Radiant Garden were defeated.
When their enemies began to close on their homeworld, in a last ditch effort, the Ancients cast a devastating spell that not only obliterated all enemy forces on their planet's surface but it completely devastated the entire planet leaving only its castle, Hollow Bastion, intact.
The art of magick was never seen or used again for thousands of years. It wasn't until the 125 ABY, when Cain Knightlord discovered the wayward planet, when the art came in to the Galaxy's view again. Cain studied all the ancient texts he found amongst the ruins of Hollow Bastion, mastering the art and establishing his own cult of magickal followers whom he personally instructed in the mystic arts.
The differant types of magick are divided into several differant categories or classes with each class having a particular focus. There are five known classifications of magick.
