The Maelstrom is a volatile region of space located near Badlands and the Briar Patch, on the edge of Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian territories. However, due to the inhospitable nature of many star systems in the region, no major powers had designs of colonizing the region.
However, following a survey by the USS Hawking, several scientists expressed great interest in studying the Maelstrom and its multiple attributes. One of the most interesting attributes is that many star systems in the Maelstrom have triple the amount of ambient radiation which is found in typical star systems containing habitable, Class M planets. This means that attempts by the Federation to colonize these planets had initially proved unsuccessful. However, in the mid-2370s, technological and scientific advances, such as environmental bio-filters and atmospheric shielding made the terraforming process possible on these planets.
By 2378, the Federation had began terraforming the two outermost planets of the Vesuvi system, in order to facilitate the mining of vast mineral sources. A Starfleet science station was also constructed in orbit of Draegos, third planet of the Vesuvi system
As well as high ambient radiation, the Maelstrom is full of subspace rifts, quantum destabilization, and high radioactivity. (TNG video game: Bridge Commander)

The term Maelstrom means 'A violent or turbulent situation' and 'A whirlpool of extraordinary size or violence'.
Maelstrom is a tall and menacing wrestler who lives in and owns an Aquarium, much of his past life remains a mystery however his obseesion with all things aquatic and water based may make him seem rather unhinged to those he encounters.. His wrestling style consists of using power based moves on the whole, but can use submissions to great affect as well as being fairly agile for a big man. He also uses a variety of mind games to defeat his opponents ranging from simple pyrotechnics and effects to seemingly supernatural abilites such as returning from being eaten by a Great White Shark. This combined with a great resiliance to pain and injury makes Maelstrom one of the best wrestlers in the EWT today and so far he has had two reigns as EWT Tri-State Champion and one reign as EWT World Champion.
Although Maelstrom looks like the kind of guy best avoided he has teamed up with other wrestlers over the years and had success. These teams ah usually short lived though as Maelstrom has a unique view of right and wrong much like the sealife that he associates his life with. If he feels slighted or stabbed in the back he will go to the ends of the ocean to take his revenge as he usually considers things to be black or white, there is no grey.
Debut and arrival in EWT
The first anyone heard of Maelstrom was the a series of video showed the power of water with plenty of swirling vortexes. It ended witht he words. THE TIDE WILL TURN!

Maelstrom is the son of an Inhuman geneticist and a Deviant handmaiden, the first known hybrid of these two races of humanity's genetic offshoots. Phaeder and Maelstrom eventually began to travel the world incognito.
Maelstrom and his father set up base in the underwater ruins of the island of Attilan when the Inhumans moved their city to the Himalayan Mountains. Discovering molecules of the mutagenic Terrigen Mist in the ruins, the two began experiments that they hoped would let them subjugate the two races that had spurned them, the Inhumans and the Deviants.
The existence of Maelstrom and Phaeder was revealed when Maelstrom attempted to steal the Anti-Terrigen compound developed by Reed Richards (the hero Mr. Fantastic) and the Inhumans. After an unsuccessful attempt to subject all of Attilan to the compound, Maelstrom commanded his accomplice, the mysterious Deathurge, to kill him. At the instant of his death, Maelstrom's life essence and memories were transferred to a cloned body. Phaeder was too old and feeble for the process to work for him, and he died.
While investigating the whereabouts of his mother's people, the Deviants, Maelstrom learned that most of their ruling class had been atomically transmuted into a single organic cube by the Eternals, another variant strain of humanity. Maelstrom decided to use his bio-kinetic power to siphon the energy of the entire Eternal population while they participated in a ritual which formed the Uni-Mind. Thanks to the intervention of the hero team Avengers, this scheme failed, and once more Maelstrom bid Deathurge to terminate his life. Maelstrom's essence transferred to yet another clone and he embarked upon his next master plan, to siphon the kinetic energy of the Earth's rotation. This plan was also thwarted by the Avengers, and Maelstrom was apparently destroyed, as his absorption of the energy forced him to bodily expand, dissolving into cosmic-scale proportions.
Maelstrom can absorb kinetic energy such as physical blows to himself and convert the energy into increased health and strength. He can divert absorbed energy into a blast of kinetic energy as well. Even before he used siphon devices to augment this power, Maelstrom proved able to absorb massive amounts of energy, from blows of the mightiest of Earth's champions. With his siphon devices, the upper limits of his absorption raised exponentially. The first siphon converted the mental energies of the Eternals' Uni-Mind into an absorbable form. The second device absorbed kinetic energy from the earth itself, slowing the planet's rotation.
When he became the cosmic entity known as Anomaly, Maelstrom could absorb the motion of the entire universe.
While on Earth, Maelstrom created clones of himself, his minions, and probably others. When one of them happened to be killed, the technology in Maelstrom's lair shunted the life form to a new body. The transfer had planetary range (4000+ miles), and gave Maelstrom virtual immortality, dependent only on the number of clones he had available.

Maelstrom is a novel currently being written by Jack Nebulax. It was originally known under the working title "Resurrection: The Imperial Plague".
Set in 5 ABY, Maelstrom details the stuggles within the Nebulax Empire on Had Abbadon, as witnessed by Emperor Jack Nebulax. Having witnessed sixty-one years of history firsthand has done nothing to prepare Nebulax for the conflict which he will be facing that threatens to divide his young empire in two.
Maelstrom is the General of Mainframe's drone army. A near perfect replica of Mainframe, he is virtually indestructible, capable of handily defeating hundreds of opponents without strain.
After the Autobot known as 10-22 tracked down the location of Mainframe's Arctic headquarters where the kidnapped Bumblebee had been taken, Maelstrom was deployed to defend the base, forcing the Chevy Autobots to face him in combat. No single Autobot could bring him down, but every attack chipped away at his power levels.
After countless battles, Optimus Prime sent a communication to the Chevy Autobots, noting that the weakened Maelstrom had just received a huge surge of energy...power from Mainframe's own spark. Despite their foe's power increase, the Autobots continued to attack, realizing that once they got past Maelstrom, Mainframe would be significantly weakened.
Ultimately, the endless waves of enemies proved too much for Maelstrom, and he was destroyed, allowing Prime and the Autobots to infiltrate Mainframe's base.
