Colonel Alan Mace
Also known as: Trap One
Race: Human
Home Planet: Earth
Home Era: 2000s
Appearances: DW: The Sontaran Stratagem/ The Poison Sky
Actor: Rupert Holliday Evans
"Attention all troops! The Sontarans might think of us as primitive, as does every passing species with an axe to grind. They make a mockery of our weapons, our soldiers, our ideals. But no more. From this point on, it stops. From this point on, the people of Earth fight back and we show them. We show the warriors of Sontar what the human race can do."
―Colonel Mace.

Colonel Alan Mace was the man in charge of the British division of UNIT from 2005, replacing Colonel Brimmicombe-Wood. He was not present at the Tower of London base for The Christmas Invasion, for unknown reasons. In contrast, he took personal command over Operation Blue Sky.

Upon first meeting the Doctor, he was awe-struck and saluted him, but as the operation went on he became more irritated by the Doctor's cavalier approach and dismissal of the military's tactics. When the Sontarans revealed themselves, he clashed with the Doctor when UNIT tried to launch a nuclear strike on the Sontaran warship, and was later forced by the Doctor to call a full retreat from the ATMOS factory when the Sontarans began slaughtering the soldiers present.

Mace coordinated the UNIT counter offensive to regain the ATMOS factory, having the soldiers rearm themselves with rad-steel coated bullets (preventing the Sontaran's field that negated copper bullets) and calling in the Valiant to clear the gas around the area. When beginning this operation, he finally snapped at the Doctor over his "lack of faith".

He personally killed Sontaran Commander Skorr with a pistol. After the defeat of the Sontaran plan, he shared a kiss with one of his captains, Marion Price. (DW: The Sontaran Stratagem / The Poison Sky)

When Lois Habiba walked in on a discussion between John Frobisher and Colonel Oduya on the 456, they changed the subject to Colonel Mace. In the course of their discussion, it was revealed that he is now stationed in Vancouver following the 2009 Dalek invasion of Earth. However, if Mace had relocated to Canada then it is assumed that he is no longer in command of the UK division of UNIT (TW: Children of Earth)

  • Position: Head of the British division of UNIT
  • Years: 2005 - 2009
  • Preceded by: Brimmicombe-Wood
  • Succeeded by: Augustus Oduya

Behind the Scenes

  • In the exclusive clip for Turn Left, which is set in an alternate timeline slightly before the events of Series 3. Mace is heard talking to Private Harris since Harris is heard talking to Trap One, Mace's codename.
  • His first name of Alan given on Page 129 of REF: The Time Traveller's Almanac.
  • If Mace had relocated to Canada then it is assumed that he is no longer in command of the UK division of UNIT

History

Mace was designed to be the Sunrise Society's ultimate weapon. He took his codename from the unique weapon given to him. However, Mace disagreed with the society. After escaping from the Sunrise Society, Mace found himself battling Venom (Eddie Brock).

When several of the Sunrise Society's other operatives attacked Venom, Mace assisted him. The two then went their separate ways.

About Mace

This spice tastes and smells like a pungent version of Nutmeg, and for a very good reason ... mace is the bright red membrane that covers the nutmeg seed. After the membrane is removed and dried it becomes a yellow-orange color. It's sold ground and, less frequently, whole (in which case it's called a blade). Mace is used to flavor all manners of foods, sweet to savory.

A Mace is a one-handed melee weapon, and it is one of the few weapons that have crush for a primary attack type. Maces are special in that they provide a Prayer bonus, a trait shared by only several other weapon-class items, Verac's flail being another. The mace also has a controlled attack style, giving equal experience to Attack, Strength, and Defence. However, majority of other weapons have a considerably weaker Controlled attack style.

Maces are not considered to be the better weapon classes available and are rarily used, although the Dragon Mace is sometimes used for its powerful Special attack as a finishing or opening attack.

Players can buy maces from bronze to adamant in Flynn's Mace Market in Falador. Rune maces can be bought from the Champions' Guild. Dragon maces can be bought from the Heroes' Guild and require the completion of the Heroes' Quest to be wielded.
