It was first introduced in 2437, making the rifle 115 years old by 2552, though it has remained the primary service rifle of all branches of the UNSC since its introduction. Though the Army has designated the weapon MA37 since its inception, all other branches of the UNSC have designated it as the MA5, the first in a line of assault rifles.[1]
The MA37 Individual Combat Weapon System is an air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed, fully automatic bullpup rifle that fires 7.62x51mm ammunition. It possess a built in ammo indicator and compass for orientation similar to that of all other MA5 series rifles. It has a high rate of fire, but is rendered useless at long range due to its wide spread, ineffectiveness against energy shields, and overall inaccuracy.[2]
