Lump of Brain is an item that the Lone Wanderer finds in the Point Lookout add-on for Fallout 3. It is a piece of the Wanderer's own brain in a glass jar.

Location

Main article: Walking with Spirits

The item is in the Engine Room of the Duchess Gambit, on the table next to Tobar. You can only get in this room after completing the quest Walking with Spirits and speaking to Nadine in the Ark & Dove Cathedral. Once obtained, it can be used as a great decoration for the player's house/suite/flying saucer.

As mentioned above it can only be obtained after talking with Nadine, but also only after you've asked her to remove your scar; you then have the option to ask her why the Tribals would cut your head open. This effectively makes you unable to obtain The Lump of Brain and keep your scar, without using console commands.

Notes

  • It appears that you had significantly less brain taken out than most if you observe the quantities in the other jars; this might be why you aren't affected by the lobotomy like the Tribals. There is also no change to any of your stats or skills.
  • Upon examining this item, the game states that "you feel a terrible sense of loss" when looking at this familiar piece of gray matter. This is a direct reference to Fallout 2's Mutated Toe; sadly, however, there is no option to eat your lump of brain in Fallout 3 as there was in Fallout 2 with your mutated toe.
  • It is very much useless, but you can use it as Rock-it Launcher ammo or as a decoration in your house.
  • The 'Familiar' Piece of Brain will be on the Duchess Gambit even before you start the quest. On the PC version, you can unlock the door and find it.
  • The item was apparently meant to trigger the Gray Matters perk once it was picked up.
